    78 year old Fanya Shamis of Coconut Creek Florida and her eleven year old grandson Daniel Behar of Lorton, Virginia both died when the tour bus they were riding in flipped over on a highway in southeastern Mexico, Anna Behar, Daniel’s mother, was also listed among the twelve fatalities, which included eight United States citizens, two Swiss nationals, one Canadian and the tour’s Mexican guide.

    Behar’s husband Moises and her 15 year old son David were both injured in the crash as were the driver of the bus and 17 other passengers According to the Associated Press.

    Authorities said that the bus was taking passengers from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship to Mayan ruins at Chacchoben when the incident occurred just after 9 AM. Witnesses said that the skies were clear and roads were dry when the driver of the bus lost control of his vehicle which occurred on a narrow two-lane roadway.

    A statement released by Royal Caribbean cruises said that bus was transporting passengers from two separate cruise ships, both of which were on seven day Caribbean cruises that departed from Florida this weekend.

    The Behar family are involved with the Magen David Sephardic Congregation in Rockville, MD.

    Boroch Dayan Haemet; it is horrible that two American Jewish families (one in Brooklyn), and the other in Mexico, should have to experience such tragedies.
