Los Angeles - A man claiming to be the person who delivered a gift-wrapped package of horse manure at the Los Angeles home of U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Monday he did it to protest the federal tax overhaul signed into law last week by President Donald Trump.

Robert Strong, 45, a psychologist for the Los Angeles County Public Health Department, said by telephone he left the poop-filled parcel addressed to Mnuchin and Trump in the driveway outside Mnuchin’s home in the posh Bel Air community.

KNBC-TV, an NBC television affiliate in Los Angeles, reported Mnuchin was not home at the time. The package was found by Mnuchin’s neighbor.

“Protest really should be funny,” Strong told Reuters. “People’s eyes glaze over when they just see angry people in the streets.” He believes the new tax law will hurt poor people.

Neither the U.S. Secret Service nor the Los Angeles Police Department, both of which investigated the incident, would confirm Strong was responsible. The Secret Service interviewed an individual who admitted delivering the package, but no charges had been filed against him as of Monday afternoon.

LAPD Lieutenant Rob Weise said it was possible whoever left the package did not break any criminal laws. While he is not assigned to investigate the incident, Weise said if the box did not present any danger, it would not be illegal. The LAPD bomb squad X-rayed the box before opening it on Saturday.

In a photo of the card Strong posted on Twitter, he wrote “Misters Mnuchin & Trump, We’re returning the ‘gift’ of the Christmas tax bill” and signed it “Warmest wishes, The American people.”

Strong said a Secret Service agent, accompanied by six police officers, showed up at his house to question him on Sunday night, and the agent chided him, asking, “‘Are you ashamed of your behavior?’”

The White House declined to comment on Monday and officials with the Treasury Department could not be reached.

Accountant living in Monsey or Tenack still deducts mortgagae interest and the 10k for SALT. Assuming he is really only earning 60/70k his home loan is not worth more than 750,000. And his property tax should be roughly a little over 10.
Yeah he will loose a little since he can't deduct his state income tax. But his overall rates are lower under the new bill so that's a wash.

Furthermore, he gets 2k child tax credits vs 1k. Now its true no more 4050 child deduction but the extra 1k in credits is greater. And whats more it used to be that if you earned over 110k hardly alot of money for two income families (accountant dad earning 70k and mom earning 40k), you start loosing that child credit. Under the new law that limit goes up to 400k.

Overall if you crunch the numbers most frum families gain from the deal albeit not as much as I would like. Voting republican is still beneficial.

You are assuming that middle class loose from the tax bill. Facts are that 85% gain. And even us frum jews, those with children under 18 in all likelihood gain as well.So I am not yet sure that I'd join you.

I do conceed that the bill does not do as much as I would have liked for middle class. I would have liked a simple rate cute for anyone earning between 40-250k. Simply cut their rate by a third. Do not cute the rates for the under 40k or over 250k.

FAKE NEWS ALERT Fakest News in a long time. You are forgetting to mention the Personal Exemption worth 4.000/ per Persony. Family with 4 Childeren are loosing
24.000 Personal Exemption
15.000 Estimated State Tax

Total Estimated Deduction of 35.000 - 45.000 Depending on Income. No way the small cuts will come close to this. Net loss to a frumm family in LI, Monsey Net about 15.000 Huge. Devastating. You are right that avg middle class will gain. Avg midle class lives in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kansas, So Dakota and other Trump States. Less than 1% of frumme yiden live there. 99% lives in NY,NJ,Ct.Cal. Hard working Frumm Accountants, Lawyers, Doctors, Nurses etc are HUGE loosers. Section 8, Welfare receivers in Wili are OK.

REAL NEWS ALERT
I mentioned the 4050 deduction. Go back & reread.

For a family of 4 you loose 20k not 24k. But either way its a loose in deductions.
The actual cash you will receive from a 20k deduction is roughly around 4k

Now throw in a added 1k per child. You get 4k for 4 children that you did not receive beforehand. Thats a wash. And those earning over 110k use to loose the 1k child credit. Now you don't

re estimated state tax, its about 15k if you sum up real estate and income tax .(10+5). Its not 15k just on state income tax..You still get a 10K deduction. You loose 5k. But in lieu of that your new tax rates are lower. Here are lower rates.

Old law New Law
12% $9,525-$38,700 | 15% $9,525-$38,700
22% $38,700-$82,500 | 25% $38,700-$93,700
24% $82,500 – $157,500 | 28% $93,700-$195,450.

So roughly you get about a 3% overall rate reduction. For your typical accountant you'll now save upwards of $3,000.

In a nutshell for a family of 4 earning 100k,
you'll loose a 20k deduction = 4k, but you'll get an extra 4k in child credits.
You'll loose a 5k state deduction =1k but you rate is $3,000 lower
You walk out with an extra $2,000.

Long Island in particular may loose since taxes are very high. But those in NJ or monsey not as much.

Now let me run some numbers for you for a 150k earner with 4 children and a 750k home loan.

Under old tax he exempted say you are correct total of 65k= 18k
His child tax credits were 1k per child LESS $50 for every $1000 earned above 110k. His total credits were 4,000- (50*(150,000-110,000))= $2000
Total 20k

Under new bill
He will exempt 10k+ Mort Interest+ charity =30k.= 8k
His rates are lowered by around 3% overall so he now pay.3*(150k) less= 4,500
His child tax credits are now the full 2k per child= 8k

Total 20,500 back.

Please feel free to dispute my numbers.

You sound like Obama "You can keep your Doctor" remember. You cant take away most deductions of the middle class ( State Income Tax, Real Estate Tax, School Tax, Most of Mortgage Int. Personal Exemptions etc) and claim you can "Keep it"

True you can take something away and then claim keep it.

But you can take away deductions while lowering rates and offering greater credits to offset deductions. The overall net tax payments are about the same.

As a side note most of mortgage interest is taken away? MOST? You still get a deduction for a loan amount of up to 750k. That's an over a million dollar home. The only loan you can get in excess of 750k is a jumbo loan for the rich. That's far from MOST.

Have you crunched the numbers? I provided a numerical example. You did not. You are simply engaging in fear mongering without substance.

I get it you hate the rich But go ahead and crunch the numbers for a middle income earner with 4 children and a home loan 750k or lower.(If your loan is greater than 750k you are not middle income and won't get approved for a loan of that size with a 150k income.)

So go ahead provide a numerical example including the lower rates, larger credits and higher income allowed to receive those credits.

Frum jews un the tri state may not come out very ahead but we won't loose much.

Go ahead crunch the numbers and show me the math. I showed you the math. Now do the same.

As long as we the middle class don't loose I see nothing wrong . And we don't loose by enlarge . Even us frum yidden don't looose .

By the way those rich people pay my bonuses and I also have a 401k with them . Those are side benefits .

Main point what's wrong with benefiting the rich ?

I don't think you aRE coherent it will benefit THE RICH like Koch brothers, Trump and real estate investors. You are incoherent .

You do know that "the rich" are the ones that pay the majority of the taxes collected by Federal and sate localities? You do know that "the rich" are the ones that create jobs? Yet you still have a problem with "the rich" receiving a tax cut while 95% of the country will also be receiving a tax cut?
