New York - Four days after an NYPD officer sustained minor injuries after being struck by a driver who was burning rubber in Times Square, the NYPD has detained two individuals in connection with the incident.

Earlier today police said that 20 year old Arfhy Santos and 24 year old William Lopez, both of the Bronx, were wanted in connection with the attempted traffic stop which took place shortly before midnight on January 13th.

While the NYPD confirmed that two suspects had been detained, they declined to release their identities, saying that more information would be made available at a 6:30 press conference taking place in front of the Midtown South station house.

According to NBC News (http://bit.ly/2mIbqty), the two men in custody are Santos and Lopez.

Dramatic video footage of the incident shows a black Mercedes Benz tearing through the popular tourist area, clouds of smoke spewing behind the vehicle.

A member of the NYPD’s Midtown South Precinct approached the car on foot as it stopped for a light, placing his hands on the hood of the car, but the driver hit the gas, swerving twice in an effort to dislodge the officer from his car.

The officer was identified by the New York Post (http://nyp.st/2DrUqlN) as 26 year old Ian Wallace.

Wallace fell to the ground as he was sideswiped by the Mercedes, getting up quickly to chase after the car, along with several other patrolmen.

The officers continued their pursuit as the driver turned up 42nd Street, reportedly hitting several vehicles as it fled the area.

Wallace was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries to his legs and back.

According to ABC News (http://7ny.tv/2DrNvZW), Santos is believed to be the driver of the car, while Lopez may have been a passenger.  Police could not confirm if either of the two had prior arrest records.
