Washington - Some 102 Democratic congressmen sent a letter to President Donald Trump calling on him to continue funding for U.N.’s Palestinian relief agency.

The State Department last month announced that it had put a hold on $65 million of the $125 million annual allocation to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, which distributes its assistance in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as to refugee camps in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. Days later, the State Department announced that a $45 million payment pledged for the UNRWA food aid program would also be held up.

According to UNRWA, the United States provided more than $350 million in aid to the organization in 2017.

“Continuing to freeze this aid will harm American interests by exacerbating the threats facing both peoples and reducing the United States’ ability to help the Israelis and Palestinians reach a two-state solution,” said the letter sent Thursday signed by more than half of the House Democratic Caucus.

“The deterioration in the near-term prospects for progress toward a negotiated peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would render a cut-off of US assistance all the more dangerous. Deliberately exacerbating the hardship of the Palestinian people and reducing the ability of their government to function would only contribute to the benefit of those who reject engagement. Extremist and anti-Israel groups would be all too eager to fill in the vacuum, deepening their hold in the region and expanding their destructive influence on the prospects for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.”

Reps. Peter Welch of Florida and David Price of North Carolina circulated the letter.

J Street, the liberal Middle East policy group, rallied lawmakers to sign the letter.

The article states "J Street, the liberal Middle East policy group, rallied lawmakers to sign the letter." It should have said "J Street, the anti-Israel, anti-Jewish Middle East policy group, rallied lawmakers to sign the letter."

Paying off Jordan, Egypt and Israel has managed to keep the peace fairly well. Cutting off funding to Palestine will just force them further into the arms of the Iranians.

They are already there. Exterminate all enemies of Israel. All these enemies are dedicating their lives to harm Israel and force it to live in 24/7 terror. They are non-verbal, bloodthirsty savages that never, ever give or compromise on anything, and only take. They have never been open to peace, and are just using all these charades with other world leaders to force Israel to concede everything it has, including its own security.

Cutting off the aid to Palestinians will simply choke off the supply of US and UN money that funds terror. You know that, and it is dishonest to play the game about "humanitarian" aid. Trump finally sees though that, and so should anyone with any moral fiber to their existence.

Silly argument.

Egypt and Syria have a total different dynamic vs Palestine.
1) They have their own soverign country and have not interest in fighting all day with Israel. Palestine thrives on fighting and killing and has no other reason to exist
2) They were defeated miserably in 67 & 73
3) They are more secular whereas the Palestinians are more frum. Frum muslims believe in killing jews

And what more, even you concede that this was only after a peace deal was made. But to throw money before peace is made???

Force them further into the arms of the Iranians. ??
Aren't you an expert on Muslims? Hamas is sunni. Iran is shite. You think Hamas will start taking money from Shiites?

As a side note re Egypt, They are only good because the tough man Al-Sisi took control and crushed democracy. Had Hillary gotten her way and allowed Morsi the democratic leader to stay in power things would not be so rosy there.
