Warwick, NY – A 19-year-old accused of spray-painting swastikas and other Nazi graffiti at a Jewish cemetery in upstate New York has pleaded guilty to a hate crime charge.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports that Eric Carbonaro pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of tampering with evidence and fifth-degree conspiracy as a hate crime.
Several swastikas, the words “Heil Hitler” and the letters “SS” were found in October 2016 on the entrance to the Temple Beth Shalom’s cemetery. It is located in the Orange County town of Warwick, near the New Jersey border 40 miles (65 kilometers) northwest of New York City.
Carbonaro admitted that the vandalism was religiously motivated. Investigators say he told a friend to delete evidence of the crime.
Prosecutors will recommend a six-month jail sentence.
