Tallahassee, FL – The armed deputy who was on the campus of Stoneman Douglas High School during a shooting rampage that left 17 dead on Feb. 14 stood outside the building for about four minutes where it occurred and did not go in to engage the shooter, Broward County Sheriff said on Thursday.

Sheriff Scott Israel announced during a Thursday news conference that Deputy Scot Peterson resigned after being suspended without pay.
Israel said he made the decision after reviewing video surveillance and interviewing witnesses, including the deputy himself. The sheriff says Peterson responded to the building where the shooting took place, took up a position outside a door and never went in.
When asked what Peterson should have done, Israel said the deputy should have “went in, addressed the killer, killed the killer.”
Authorities say 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz fatally shot 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on Feb. 14.
This “officer” is a coward who will live with his shame for the rest of his life. He is “branded”. That said, the Supreme Court has ruled that the Police owe no one a duty of care. From a legal standpoint it was the officer’s choice whether or not to engage. What a pity.
So we can now see first hand how having armed personnel at schools may not work out as we’d like.
We need to ban bump stocks, assault rifles, and other weapons of mass destruction.
A shandeh.
Another government agency failed to protect these children. Terrible.
This is horrifying to read.
Can the victims families sue this guy for not doing his duty??
This is what the guy was hired to do,and he just does not go in to save the day??
Simply unbelievable.
Trained sheriff’s deputy waited outside but armed teachers wouldn’t be scared to shoot it out with the attacker. Got it.
The deputy did not have an automatic assault weapon. He would have been gunned down as well. No one in civilian life ever needs an assault weapon. It is beyond belief that they are legal.
if he had a hand gun and the killer had an assault gun, the deputy knew that the chances of his killing the attacker was much less than we think. WHY?
The range of the attack gun is much greater than that of a pistol. Before he could get close enough to the attacker, he could be seen and killed.
Before we criticize, let us think of the difference between the two guns: an attack rifle vrs a hand gun; the difference in range or distance it could shoot and the difference in how fast and how many bullets it can release in a short time. Plus how many magazines did the deputy possess vrs that of the attacker?
Legally the police don’t have to anything to protect you
Regarding the NYPD, if there are pending administrative charges against you (i.e. suspension or other charges), they will not permit you to retire with a pension, until those charges have been adjudicated. It is too bad that in Florida, they don’t have the same system. Incidentally, what that coward did was similar to what the cowards did at Columbine in 1999. They stayed outside, and did nothing to help the students.
