Ex-Deputy Chief Michael Harrington entered the plea in Manhattan federal court Thursday to a charge of misapplication of property valued at $5,000 or more.

His plea deal with prosecutors recommends he be sentenced to no more than six months in prison, if at all. His lawyer, Andrew Weinstein, noted afterward that bribery charges the 52-year-old Staten Island resident once faced will be dismissed.

Harrington admitted arranging services including a police escort for a funeral, counterterrorism protection at a midtown Manhattan synagogue at Jewish holidays and for disabled children to observe NYPD training.

Sentencing is set for June 11.

If this is called criminal special behaviors this is sad. The nypd has always operated this way.
Letting disabled kids watch training, now that’s a major crime? As a community we should show support and make sure that they don’t give him any jail time.

He got “stuff” in return for his favors-so yes it is criminal behavior.

To #3- It was reported that this individual (and others) performed these services for gelt! Hence, that is why he was originally charged with bribery. The bribery charge was dropped because of a plea deal. Public servants are not permitted to accept unlawful gratuities. If the NYPD is going to offer an escort for a funeral, then they should do it for everyone. Case closed.
