Democrat Paul Van Blarcum, who lost the election in 1998 but made a strong showing, announced his candidacy this week.
And James Korosi of Highland, a political newcomer who has worked on Kiryas Joel’s security force and a one-time correction officer who was fired from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, he wants the Republican nomination for the job. He’s even willing to face the incumbent Republican, Richard Bockelmann, in a primary. He said Bockelmann has got to go.

Bockelmann said he fired Korosi last year for not being available to work often enough as a part-time correction officer. Korosi confirmed he was fired.
