Washington - President Donald Trump says all lawyers are now “deflated and concerned” by the FBI raid on his personal attorney Michael Cohen’s home and office.

He tweeted Sunday: “I have many (too many!) lawyers and they are probably wondering when their offices, and even homes, are going to be raided with everything, including their phones and computers, taken. All lawyers are deflated and concerned!”

Cohen has been ordered to appear Monday in federal court in New York for arguments over last week’s raid. Cohen’s attorneys want prosecutors ordered to temporarily halt an examination of the seized material, saying it’s protected by attorney-client privilege.

The raid sought information on a $130,000 payment made to porn actress Stormy Daniels, who alleges she had sex with a married Trump in 2006. He denies it.

This is obscene, really.

When seeking a warrant to search an attorney’s office - not to mention his home and hotel room in addition to his office - standards prosecutors have to meet are extraordinarily high. Not only must the court be persuaded that there is probable cause that a crime has been committed, but also that the targeted of the warrant is likely to destroy papers and other evidence of that crime were a subpoena to be issued.

Everything coming out about Cohen “deflates” the legal profession...as well as his client, a “slime ball” who had already debased and lowered the presidency to a gutter level truly without precedent.

What does this have to do with russian spying or collusion These democrat lawyers are only looking to catch trump to impeach him.

If what Trump means, is that lawyers will be afraid to be involved in criminal activity, then the FBI is doing a good job.

Lawyers are there to advise people of their legal options, not to encourage criminal activity and then hide under the curtain of "attorney client privilege".

Interesting question.

If a lawyer is negotiating a business deal (not merely giving legal advice) covered under attorney client privilege?

Does the fact that someone has an attorney license subject it to attorney client privilege?

From as far as I read, attorney client privilege covers only legal advise, as long the conversation wasn't a crime by itself (like conspiring to commit a crime, or lying ot the FBI).

Interesting question.
Can a Criminal hire a lawyer to do criminal activities and not be subject to jail?
If let say Rubashkin would have had an attorney doing all the sticks for him both would be innocents?

Granny- as usual you are 100% wrong. The special prosecutor was mandated to do 2 things. Loom for evidence of Russian involvement w Trumpf campaign and 2 to identify ANY OTHER illegal activities. Look it up, google Rosenstein's directive. And stop watching Fox Fake News.

Most lawyers are honest and professional. They enjoy "attorney client privilege" and respect the law.

Most lawyers know that if they abuse the law, they lose the privilege.

Who says this has to do with Russian collusion? Does Trump or his cronies get a pass on anything that's not Russia related?

Absolutely nothing...and that’s the point.

It turns out that the U.S. Attorney in NY has had Cohen under an independent investigation for a long time - and when Mueller, in the course of his work, stumbled upon evidence relevant to the Cohen matter, it was referred to the U.S. Attorneys investigating Cohen.

Not entirely correct.

As is usual in such cases, Mueller’s brief would allow him to investigate any “related” matter - facts of a possible crime emerging in the course of his primary investigation...but there would have to be a nexus.

Here, the Cohen matter, apparently involving allegations of financial crimes, was deemed sufficiently unrelated to “Russia” investigation that it was referred to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York...which it turns out already was investigating Cohen.

I’ll add to my oath that what you allege here is also untrue.

My post has just a wee bit more to do with my being an attorney.

When are you going to respond to my challenge, fly face?

And...as one who often proclaims himself to be a listener of NPR, I presume that you listened to this week’s multiple part special on American Muslims. Tell us all your thoughts about it, oh Educated One.

Educated one, facts are facts despite what you hear on Faux News. There is a very high standard for search warrants to be issued for attorney's offices. A judge believed that there was strong evidence that Cohen had been involved in criminal activity, not necessarily involving Trump or Russia. It would be much easier to get a search warrant for the home, office and hotel room of a non attorney like Educated Archy, which may happen if there's indication that Archy's posts originate in Russia.

I still don't know what you want from me . Please post it clearly and in this news piece bec yes occasionally I miss your posts .

American Muslims only count if they are " frum " Muslims . They need to Daven 5 times a day , wear proper head covers , fast for 40 days , refrain from alchohl and not allow girls to drive . The American Muslims on
Npr are not frum . Of course if you are secular in the USA you won't be as bad although deep deep inside .. So no proof from those npr liars and fake newsters ( no commercials but they do have sponsors )

This Cohen thing is a lot on nonsense . I don't buy your lukshien Torah that the DA was anyhow investigating Cohen . So punkt now after mueller he was raided ? A nechtiga tug. The current DA had to recuse himself and couldn't even do it . Of course it was mueller overstepping . Lest you find me some clause where it's part of his broad mandate . It's not . Even if the clause exists , it's just not what he was hired to do . Let's not get stuck on what's written in the fine lines . Look at the spirt .

You saw it, as yesterday you responded to it a in which I repeated my challenge for a third time...so here it is for a fourth time:

I deny your accusation that I posting in any of the other screen names you allege; I post only in my own name or, infrequently, anonymously...I deny cutting and posting from NPR post the yesterday, on the standards for warrants served against an attorney's office. And I am fed up with you, your unread, undisciplined, anti-intellectual; and ad hominin BS...so:

I challenge you...I will take an oath in front of you and any Rabbis of your choice, at a location of your choice, on these issues. I'd love to meet you face to face and discuss anything...and I ask you to cooperate and ask VIN to help us set up the meeting.

And as to whether or not "the DA" (Actually the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York...DA's are local prosecutors - not Federal) was already investigating Cohen, that fact was revealed and reported in detail in all matter of press coverage, including in the New York Law Journal.

My post (#1) is nothing more than a factual description of Federal warrant procedure. All fact...no opinion. So I must conclude that the two words are "thank you."

Or, chas v'shalom, ...are you an advocate of calling any news you don't like lugenpresse...er...I mean...fake news, whether or not you know anything about the underlying issue? if so my brother, Zieg Heil...I mean...Hail Victory.

Only in America...religious Jews buying into extreme partisan politics, and into tactics honed to a perfection by the Nazis and other totalitarian dictatorships...lugen presse indeed...it's really more authentic in the German original.

So the challenge is that you'd like to meet me in person?

My only issue was that I felt you were spamming VIN under many user names. Clealry people do that. But I also respect and trust you. If you say you haven't done that then you have my full back.

Please don't get any rabbis involved. Not looking for that.

Re your in person request, I need to think about that since its a tough one. I do prefer the anonymity.

At this time I do beg forgiveness for the occasional personal attacks. I should refrain from name calling. I do not regret addressing the issues passionately. But I do regret the perosnal labels like calling you perosnally naive etc.. And for perosnal attacks my greatest appology.

As far as what you call "unread" that's just too bad. I read your comments and often disagree with your underlying notion. In fact your "anti- intellectual" argument is the first one I disagree with. Who says being Intellectual is everything ? Common sense counts too. Yes I am anti intellectual and have no shame in being that. That doesn't mean be silly and immature or resort to name calling. But...

I take insult that you call my comments BS but too bad.

My BS comment was in reference to your repeated accusations as to my bona fides.

If despite multiple stories over two days describing the independent DOJ investigation of Cohen you write"...This Cohen thing is a lot on nonsense . I don't buy your lukshien Torah that the DA was anyhow investigating Cohen..." tell me how would you describe your tendency to pontificate about things about which you simply are uninformed? Same question, regarding your farcical dismissal of commenters (me included) who described Federal warrant standards.

It seems to me that you generally respond to just about any comment that offends your populist sensibilities simply by shooting back, irrespective of whether you know anything substantive about the issue involved...and you buy into just about anything that supports those sensibilities with a similar lack of cerebral rigor.

This is not an inconsequential trait...it is how demagogues have rile up masses of people against minorities...including Jews...how the masses come to believe even vile falsehoods. Like the "facts" that Jews stabbed Germany in the back in 1918...or that undocumented aliens are a net cost to the US economy.

I doesn't take deep information to know how warrants and other stuff are obtained. If someone has bias they will get you. Especially when business dealings are complex they are bound to find some legal way to warrant an investigation. You do not need some in depth knowledge of the DOJ to know this. I know enough people prosecuted via gotcha crimes. Your problem is you think everything is by the books. If the books say so then whats wrong? Sometimes there is the spirt behind it. You & I know that cohen would have never gotten raided were it not for Trump. I know that once Trump existed they found a "pesach" with what to get him with at the DOJ. But behind it all is a mlacious intent.

The concept is not so different when it comes to fake news. I call it true facts but fake stories

You often feel to see the forest and focus on the trees.

By the way poor undocumented or even documented Latino's are a cost to the economy. They have kids here and then all collect programs while working in cash businesses (you think my goyta reports it?) Letting in poor immigrants when their children will go on social programs is mathematically unaffordable

Your response to #20 completely proves the points I made therein.

“It doesn’t take complete information...”. Really!

You seem to think that ignorance is a triumphal virtue...and that knowledge a useless waste.

You better not apply that kind of thinking to Halacha!

Yes really . Some things are common sense . I have seen enough to know that when they want get you they will get you and find away to get the DOJ on the case. I have seen the fair share of those that went to prison for small things like not ratting on friends etc.. In a liberal sense , you see how mas incarceration despite being the law that authorities and judges follow is unjust. Same is true when they want higher ups white criminals too.

No different.

I am here to stay. You can wish me goodbye all you want
