Brooklyn, NY – Hours after the FDNY found itself subjected to a barrage of criticism for assigning a firefighter who proudly proclaimed his anti-Semitic views to a firehouse on the outskirts of Borough Park, the department has changed course, electing to send the individual in question to another location, According to NYS Assemblyman Dov Hikind.

As previously reported on VIN News (http://bit.ly/2HmknlC), 28 year old Joseph Cassano graduated from the FDNY’s Fire Academy last week and had been placed at Engine Company 247 on 60th Street between 13th and New Utrecht avenues.

The son of former FDNY commissioner Salvatore Cassano, Joseph Cassano had already found himself in the media spotlight in 2011 for multiple racially charged tweets including one that read “I like jews about as much as hitler #toofar? NOPE.” Cassano was a member of the FDNY’s Emergency Medical Services when the scandal broke and he resigned his position with the department, rejoining EMS again before snagging a coveted spot at the Fire Academy in December.

It’s not clear to which station Cassano reassigned to.

Expressing his outrage at the assignment, Hikind, whose district includes Engine Company 247, scheduled a Thursday morning protest rally to include elderly Holocaust survivors outside the firehouse.

Hikind said that he applauded the FDNY’s decision and noted the importance of speaking up in the face of injustice.

“When people stand up, voice their feelings and don’t just let things go by, you get results, especially when, morally, you are in the right,” Hikind told VIN News.

The FDNY did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the matter.

our office is around the corner from the firehouse, as evil are the firefighters comments we are very uncomfortable with the action and “shtink” made , my boss ordered a fruit platter from breadberry with a short note saying we respect our fire fighters & the “community” rabbis did not ask for the transfer

I am sure that if he would have said anti-black or even worse anti-illegal alien remarks Comrade deBlasio and Fatso Sharpton would have demanded his immediate dismissal from the NYFD. It’s however OK to be an anti-Semite in New York these days. They just put you elsewhere. What will happen if there is a fire in a Jewish house. Will this creep work to put the fire out. He should be fired.

Maybe it would be wise to transfer him to the fire house on St. John’s Place and Schenectady Avenue ( L123 & Eng 234 ) It’s a two company house where most of the firefighters are black. It’s an excellent house and I’m sure because of his past racism they would be happy to re-educate and straighten out his thinking. It would either make it break him for sure.
