As previously reported on VIN News (http://bit.ly/2HVJE75), a 52 year old Crown Heights resident was assaulted by a man who made anti-Semitic remarks and threatened to kill him repeatedly.

Police describe the suspect as a 6 foot tall bearded black man in his forties, weighing 200 pounds and wearing dark clothing. Surveillance video shows the suspect wearing glasses and a dark baseball cap with a colored bill.

The incident, the second to involve the beating of a Chasidic man in Crown Heights in a week, is being investigated by the NYPD as a hate crime. Two rewards have been announced so far for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the attack, with the Anti-Defamation League is offering a $5,000 reward and a prominent Los Angeles philanthropist offering a $50,000 reward.

At a press conference today at the scene of the attack, local politicians stood with Jewish residents of Crown Heights and community leaders to denounce the attack.

“A man that says ‘hello’ cannot be victim to a hellish attack,” noted Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

Other elected officials spoke out against the anti-Semitic violence on social media.

“This city is a beacon of tolerance all over the world,” tweeted Mayor Bill de Blasio. “Attacks on Jewish New Yorkers are deplorable.”

Comptroller Scott Stringer called on New Yorkers to unite together against intolerance, tweeting “There is no room for hate of any kinds in New York City. This week’s anti-Semitic attacks in Brooklyn are attacks on everything this City stands for. It’s so important that we stand in solidarity and fight for each other and for what’s right.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline by phone at 800-577-TIPS, by text at 247637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577 or online at www.NYPDCrimeStoppers.com.
