Police have identified the suspect as 21 year old Ronald Williams who is said to frequent both Queens and the Bronx. Williams has at least one prior arrest for robbery, said the NYPD.
Police Commissioner James O’Neill took to Twitter today, saying that Williams is known to frequent both Queens and the Bronx.
“Someone knows where he is RIGHT NOW,” tweeted O’Neill, who classified the attack as “extremely brutal.”
As previously reported on VIN News (http://bit.ly/2KFhq1F), the attack took place in broad daylight just steps away from a popular kosher supermarket. An Orthodox Jewish elementary school and a local public school are both within four blocks of the crime scene.
Police sources said that Williams was identified through tips from the public, reported the Daily News (https://nydn.us/2JWBH1m). The NYPD released clear footage showing Williams riding an MTA bus on Thursday, his clothing matching that of a suspect pictured in surveillance footage retrieved from nearby the crime scene on 72nd Road near Kissena Boulevard.
The victim had been placed on a respirator and could not speak with police for several days.
Police believe that the attack was random and are offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline by phone at 800-577-TIPS, by text at 247637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577 or online at www.NYPDCrimeStoppers.com.
