Queens, NY – A 21 year old man is under arrest for the brutal assault and rape of a 52 year old Queens woman last week.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea tweeted his thanks this afternoon to the Kew Gardens Hills community and the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit and Fugitive Enforcement Division for their help in capturing Ronald Williams.
As previously reported on VIN News (http://bit.ly/2FWlRBw) surveillance cameras, both near the crime scene on 72nd Road and on an MTA bus that traveled through the heavily Jewish neighborhood, helped police identify Williams in the vicious assault that left the victim beaten beyond recognition.
No charges have been filed against Williams yet, who has at least one prior arrest for robbery, and was arrested in a South Carolina motel.
The unusually violent and random attack left the local community reeling, with bulletins going out to area residents and schools warning everyone to be on the alert for any suspicious individuals or activity.
According to ABC News (https://7ny.tv/2FWFw4d), the Asian victim had been beaten so badly that as of Saturday she was still unable to speak with detectives.
Fearful that Williams could strike again, the NYPD assigned a special 40 person tactical team to the investigation.
“A case like this leaving a victim as brutally beaten as she was is extremely troublesome,” said Captain Elisa Anders of the Special Victims Unit.
