The students were from Talmud Torah Mevakshei Hashem, located on Ocean Parkway in Kensington between Ditmas Avenue and Avenue F.

A woman who answered the phone at the yeshiva said that three students were injured in the accident, with ABC News reporting that an adult chaperone on the bus was also among those who were hurt. Sources told VIN News that all four sustained relatively minor injuries.

New Jersey State Police Chaplain Abe Friedman said the 32 children in grades three through nine and a small number of adult chaperones were returning from an end of school year trip to Diggerland, a construction themed amusement park in West Berlin, New Jersey.

The accident took place at approximately 4PM on the northbound ramp from the New Jersey Turnpike to the Goethals Bridge.

Both the inner and outer roadways were closed at the exit 13 interchange on the northbound side of the Turnpike as emergency crews from the New Jersey State Police, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and multiple ambulances raced to the scene.

Passengers of the bus, believed to be part of a four bus convoy from the yeshiva, had evacuated themselves from the overturned vehicle by the time first responders reached the scene.

Video footage showed children and others on the roadway as they waited to be evacuated from the scene and CBS News reported that one of the bus’s axles had detached from the vehicle’s frame and could be seen a distance away from the overturned bus.

The Turnpike’s outer roadway ramp to the Goethals Bridge was closed for nearly an hour. The inner roadway ramp remains closed at this time, with the overturned bus laying on its left side on the roadway, with rush hour traffic heavy in the area.

Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident.

Don’t know about this driver, I’m sure he’s good, but some of the chassidish school bus drivers are vilda chayos. Don’t know what the yeshivas standards are in hiring drivers; there should be .

There is a double standard on this site; when a driver is a goy, we want to throw the book at him, for his reckless driving. However, if the driver is a frum person, and he has caused a horrible accident for reckless driving, then we are told to keep our mouths shut, not prejudge, etc. Even when the police have filed a multitude of charges against the offending driver, we are always told “We have information which shows the driver didn’t cause the accident”, or “the police were wrong”, etc. Look, these types of accidents just don’t happen by themselves. More often then not, speeding, reckless driving, or texting while driving are involved.

When I drove in Borough Park a few years ago, I was shocked to see the lack of Derech Eretz among drivers (i.e. passing cars from behind, over a solid yellow line, reckless driving, speeding, etc. If people drive that way on residential city streets, think how they drive on a highway. There is no discipline any longer, and no manners. Is this how frum people are supposed to act?
