Brooklyn, NY – NYPD Employee Killed After Tire Flies Off Truck On Gowanus Expressway

    Brooklyn, NY – A driver was killed in a freak accident on the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn Wednesday morning when a tire flew off a truck and smashed into the man’s car.

    A 64-year-old NYPD employee, who works in building maintenance at Police Headquarters, was driving to work in the HOV lane before the accident occurred.

    A truck driver was traveling opposite the off-duty employee when the private sanitation truck’s tire came unhinged.

    The tire struck and shattered the windshield of the Toyota RAV 4m, which then crashed into the roadway barrier divider.

    The man suffered trauma to his head and was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    The operator of the private sanitation vehicle truck remained at the scene. No charges were initially filed.
