Brooklyn, NY - Detectives at the NYPD’s 63rd Precinct are looking for a brazen burglar who illegally entered the home of a Jewish family last week twice in the same night, leaving with an assortment of items including credit cards and electronic devices.

The incident took place on E35th Street between Avenues K and L in Midwood on August 30th.  Police said that the unidentified man first entered the home at 4:35 AM through what was likely an unlocked back door.

The man emerged from the home several minutes later with a pocketbook, a laptop, credit cards and a watch valued at approximately $100, riding away on a bicycle that was also stolen from the home.

According to CBS News (https://cbsloc.al/2Q4pStG), homeowner Sheila Zonenshein said that she, her husband and their four children were all upstairs sleeping when the robbery occurred.

Video surveillance footage taken from both inside and outside the home show the robber entering and leaving the home twice, even capturing his activities as he rummaged through kitchen drawers and the refrigerator, using his shirt to prevent leaving fingerprints behind.

At one point the unidentified man, dressed in a light colored t-shirt, dark pants, a baseball cap and a knapsack, can be seen removing a package of what Zonenshein said were chocolate chip muffins from the refrigerator, only to return them several moments later before finally leaving for good.

Zonenshein said that she realized something was wrong the next morning when she came downstairs and discovered that her pocketbook was missing, reporting the theft to police at 9:20 AM. Police said that there was no sign of forced entry and that their investigation into the incident is continuing.

A tweet by Flatbush Shomrim showing surveillance footage of the robbery noted that the same individual is wanted for breaking into multiple homes in the area.  Flatbush Shomrim was not immediately available to comment on the robbery.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline by phone at 800-577-TIPS, by text at 247637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577 or online at www.NYPDCrimeStoppers.com.

Why do people leave doors and windows unlocked, and why don't they have burglar alarms in this day and age?

Do you really expect a cop on every block at all times to prevent a crime such as this? When there's a pattern in a neighborhood the NYPD saturates the area as we saw in Midwood over a year ago leading to the arrest of a serial burglar.

NYPD are too busy having unmarked cars on corner so they can write as many tickets as possible. I bet u that the last time East 35 Street saw police officer on foot patrol was probably like 45 years ago. They focus on what makes the city money, not on preventing crime.

I agree. We need more "proactive" measures from the police.
But we need to go much further with being proactive. We must insist that VIN get more proactive and prevent utterly ridiculous comments from ever getting posted.

Let's not blame the cops in this particular case. Here the fault lies directly at these people who according to the article LEFT THEIR BACKDOOR UNLOCKED!! They should thank Hashem that this creature didn't come upstairs and do worse to them and their children!!!

I have NEVER seen a foot patrol by a NYPD cop in my entire life in NYC, I am not exaggerating, I see them literally in front of the Dunkin Donuts and even more in front of the 7/11, they have quotas for tickets and come to Jewish areas to get those quotas filled since they don't want another Alton Sterling, they even come from other precincts to do this. They milk overtime by "securing" parades and other useless work where 10 cops stand in 1 spot talking to each other. hashtag useless NYPD.

I remember in Boro Park as a kid that there were foot patrols many years ago. But it was stopped as the cops got too friendly with the locals and were possibly corrupted when they got free dinners on 13th ave among other shenanigans. The brass decided it's better to keep transferring to different precincts so this doesn't happen.
