The incident took place on E35th Street between Avenues K and L in Midwood on August 30th. Police said that the unidentified man first entered the home at 4:35 AM through what was likely an unlocked back door.

The man emerged from the home several minutes later with a pocketbook, a laptop, credit cards and a watch valued at approximately $100, riding away on a bicycle that was also stolen from the home.

According to CBS News (https://cbsloc.al/2Q4pStG), homeowner Sheila Zonenshein said that she, her husband and their four children were all upstairs sleeping when the robbery occurred.

Video surveillance footage taken from both inside and outside the home show the robber entering and leaving the home twice, even capturing his activities as he rummaged through kitchen drawers and the refrigerator, using his shirt to prevent leaving fingerprints behind.

At one point the unidentified man, dressed in a light colored t-shirt, dark pants, a baseball cap and a knapsack, can be seen removing a package of what Zonenshein said were chocolate chip muffins from the refrigerator, only to return them several moments later before finally leaving for good.

Zonenshein said that she realized something was wrong the next morning when she came downstairs and discovered that her pocketbook was missing, reporting the theft to police at 9:20 AM. Police said that there was no sign of forced entry and that their investigation into the incident is continuing.

A tweet by Flatbush Shomrim showing surveillance footage of the robbery noted that the same individual is wanted for breaking into multiple homes in the area. Flatbush Shomrim was not immediately available to comment on the robbery.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline by phone at 800-577-TIPS, by text at 247637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577 or online at www.NYPDCrimeStoppers.com.

Why do people leave doors and windows unlocked, and why don’t they have burglar alarms in this day and age?

Let’s not blame the cops in this particular case. Here the fault lies directly at these people who according to the article LEFT THEIR BACKDOOR UNLOCKED!! They should thank Hashem that this creature didn’t come upstairs and do worse to them and their children!!!
