Fire officials said Thomas J. Corcoran lost his footing on a ladder and fell onto the pavement below.
Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro (NY’-groh) says the Sunday night fire occurred in a Pelham Bay building where marijuana was being grown. Corcoran was admitted to a hospital in serious but stable condition with back and leg injuries.
“He has back injuries and possible leg injuries. He’s a very lucky individual,” Fire Commission Daniel Nigro said late Sunday night. “This is a 38-year-old firefighter, married, father of three, with 12 years experience in the fire department.”
The cause of Sunday night’s fire was not immediately determined.
In September 2016, Deputy Chief Michael Fahy was killed in a gas explosion at another marijuana “grow house” in the Bronx. Two men who caused Fahy’s death by tampering with gas lines at that illegal marijuana-growing operation pleaded guilty to manslaughter and were sentenced to prison in August.
Our thoughts and prayers to the firefighter for a speedy recovery.
