Mayor Bloomberg is expected to announce plans for more layoffs during a news conference.

The job cuts are just one of the bad line-item bits of news expected when the mayor unveils his new budget and tries to close a deficit.

Sources say the Bloomberg plan will result in 3,750 more layoffs, most through attrition, in city agencies.
However, no teachers or members of uniformed services will be laid off. All totaled, there will be a loss of 13,500 jobs.

“The Mayor will propose a budget that will help New York City recover from the economic crisis by protecting our quality of life,” Deputy Mayor for Operation Edward Skyler said. “Agency budgets are being reduced carefully to maintain vital services like public safety, education and health care. However, in order to balance the budget, we still need assistance from our municipal labor unions. City agencies and the City’s taxpayers are being asked to do their part and we need labor to do their part.”

Bloomberg’s preliminary budget proposal in January warned that layoffs and further cuts were coming.

He also proposed a sales tax hike in January, but officials said his new plan will contain a slightly higher increase than the .25 percent initially proposed, (as was reported here on VIN News). The mayor said yesterday that there are no easy choices to make.

Fiscal year 2010 begins July 1. The City Council and the mayor must agree on the budget by then.

    its as easy as 1, 2, 3

    1. trim the workforce
    2. dont trim the teachers or uniforms, they vote.
    3. run ads that you increase jobs and dont trim.
    4. get reelected…oh is that 3?

Guarantee…Bloomberg will fire many people all over, but watch how he will not fire even one of the 300 pounders with the large sunglasses who ticket our cars as soon as they get the energy to move out of the donut shops.

Not enough money for New york city? What if the police were better trained and had real leadership : “
According to a report in the New York Post, the city paid $66.4 million last year to 1,265 claimants who accused the NYPD of bad behavior. That compares with $31.8 million paid to 571 claimants in 1998.” Add that up for the last several years…
