    BD”E. Extremely sad.
I believe I’ve said it here in the past and it bears repeating. I don’t know how this accident happened, but cars/trucks/buses making turns when essentially both vehicles and pedestrians have the right of way is a recipe for disaster. In this day and age, we should figure out some better signaling options so these accidents don’t keep on repeating.

Unfortunately, based on my own personal experience, I cannot depend on even a green traffic light to protect me when crossing the street, as there are drivers who will run through red lights, without regard to the safety of pedestrians. The same holds true for crosswalks. One time, I was pushing someone in a wheelchair at a crosswalk, where we had a green light to proceed. However, I saw a car approaching, and waiting until he stopped, because I knew that he wanted to make a right turn on red. Even though the law requires that idiot to have come to a complete stop, he wasn’t happy about doing so, and shouted something out behind my back, after he passed me, as he was agitated that he “wasted 5 seconds”. Hence, my point is that some idiotic, aggressive and reckless drivers have no respect or regard to stopping at a red light, for someone pushing a wheelchair, (who have a green light).

To #5 and #6 - Unfortunately, we live in a youth oriented society, where senior citizens are not respected and are considered “elderly”, and even expendable. I’ve had many occasions where clerks in stores, or personnel at medical offices will deliberately speak very loudly to me, because they assume that I can’t hear very well. They don’t like it at all when I tell them that I am not deaf, and I would appreciate them speaking to me in a lower tone. When I was young, I was not always treated respectfully, and was addressed as “fella”, “son”, “young man”, in a not too nice manner. Now that I am a senior citizen, I don’t like it when someone in a condescending manner addresses me as “young man”. I recently had a confrontation with a Black man, who had the chutzpah to address me as “young man”. He didn’t at all like it when I corrected him, about referring to me in that manner. He wouldn’t like it if someone called him “Uncle” or “Boy”, or worse!

I am frequently at that corner. Trucks do what they want to do and on top of it, those exiting the gas station there are at fault as well. I have seen so many cars cut through the gas station in order to avoid the traffic light on Dahill and Cortelyou. There are many kids at that corner as well walking to school. Something needs to be done there. It is a dangerous corner with all those trucks coming out of the cement place and those trying to turn to go into Borough Park or Kensington.

#10 I knew the nifter in a professional manner and saw no signs of early dementia? Not only that I would never have guessed he was 71 ? I thought he was about 60? In any event these trucks do need to be more careful how they drive ESPECIALLY in residential neighborhoods!

its a sad that happend! but from my experience in boropark, the yidden there have a death wish. they will walk right in front of and between cars and not bat an eye lash. total tunnel vision as they rush rush rush to wherever their going.

it doesnt sound like this was the case since the truck driver was arrested! but we all have to be carefull.
