Trump (L) deliver remarks during a meeting with members of his Cabinet, in the Cabinet Room of the White House in Washington, DC, USA, 08 March 2018. EPA-EFE/MICHAEL REYNOLDS / POOLWashington – U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, a retired Marine Corps general who was known as a stabilizing force in President Donald Trump’s Cabinet, will leave his job at the end of February, Trump said in a tweet on Thursday.

His departure had been anticipated since Trump announced on Wednesday that he was withdrawing U.S. troops from Syria despite opposition from U.S. allies and top U.S. military officials.

Mattis said in his resignation letter that he was stepping down so Trump could have a defense chief whose views align more closely with his own.

Trump said he would nominate a successor to Mattis shortly.

Mattis joins a long list of former Trump administration senior figures who have either quit or been removed, some unceremoniously like Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who Trump fired via Twitter in March.

Trump’s White House has had the highest turnover of senior-level staff of the past five presidents, according to the Brookings Institution think tank.

Speculation that Mattis might not last long in his post grew in October when Trump said in a CBS interview that the general was “sort of a Democrat” and might be leaving.

Donald’s staff members seem to be like rats deserting a sinking ship. Soon only his apologist Huckabee Sanders will be left.

Let Mattis (Mad Dog) resign; I don’t like double dippers. He is enjoying a nice federal pension, from his years in the Marine Corps. He doesn’t need to be Secretary of Defense. I agree with Trump’s decision to withdraw from Syria. He should also withdraw from Afghanistan and Iraq. One cannot bring peace or democracy to a region, where savages have been killing each other for centuries, over ethnic and tribal differences. They really don’t know any better. The USA has wasted trillions of dollars on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (in addition to Syria). We could have used that money to rebuild our horrible and decaying airports, tunnels, bridges, roads, passenger railroads, and urban areas. Our passenger railroad service in the USA is a national disgrace. If one goes to Europe, Japan, and China, there is excellent passenger railroad service, in those areas of the world. There are many people who would prefer to take the train, rather than be hassled by the TSA, or deal with rude ticket agents, gate agents, and nasty flight attendants. Regarding Mattis, as Harry Truman once stated “If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen”.

What am I missing here? Am I the only one thinking this way? Those guys don’t like what the commander in chief wants and they quit? Since when does he have to do what they want? They look to him like a bunch of baby’s. They serve at the pleasure of the president and it’s not up to them to decides the outcome, they are there to advise him.

When Obama was doing things we criticized but we all understood that elections have consequences. Guess what? Yes elections have consequences and now Trump is there to decide.

Now let’s think a been deeper. How many times since Trump was elected have you said, o that is crazy for doing so and so and in the end he got it right? Point to something (obviously something that we saw the end already) that he was wrong and you were right. All I see is a bunch of bureaucrats upset that this outsider is telling them what to do, that is why we elected him, you bureaucrat, get used to it.

We are all very good at speculating, me too, but we can not forget that we are not there to see all the facts, he is… Its very easy to get carried away with all the negative media and them running big names that say Trump is crazy bla bla bla. Let’s see the outcome then will talk. Usually we don’t hear about it on purpose so you will not see they were wrong.
    People wake up!!!

How ironic is it when all the war haters always yell bring home our troops but when it’s Trump bringing them home he’s crazy…. Should tell you something you so called free thinker

I am disgusted at the liberal media, especially CNN blasting Trump’s troop withdrawals. I remember the opposition that there was when George Herbert Walker Bush sent troops to Panama in 1989. For years, the press was screaming for troop withdrawals from Vietnam; that no win war finally concluded, when the communists were successful.
