The animal’s head and innards, as well as rope and blood-covered knives were in separate cardboard boxes inside the classroom, according to photographs taken by Ramapo police.

The photographs and police report were obtained today by The Journal News under the Freedom of Information law.

When officers got to the Bobover Yeshiva at 6:42 p.m. Monday, they spoke to Jacob Honig, who was in the process of butchering a cow, according to the report.

Honig told officers that he was learning to be a kosher butcher and was practicing on the animal, which he purchased at Rubin’s Livestock in Monticello, N.Y., according to records.

Honig told officers that he had gotten permission to use the school on Route 306 from Shlomoar Bochner of Monsey, who is on the yeshiva’s board of directors.

Bochner was at the school while the cow was slaughtered, but had left before officers got there, according to the report.

Police were able to contact Bochner, who confirmed that he had given permission for the butchering to take place at they yeshiva.

“Bochner stated that he didn’t see any problem with it and didn’t think anyone would be able to see it,” according to the report.

A lawyer for the Bobover Yeshiva said yesterday that school officials were unaware of the incident and did not give permission for the slaughter to take place on school grounds.

The whole story is right out of a Seinfeld episode.
Except for the fact it brought goyish derision to Am Israel.

This whole story just gets more wierd and makes the Bobover rebbe who yesterday said he didn’t know anything about the episode appear to be deceptive and untruthful. While I’m sure Milhouse and some of the other regulars will scream that there is nothing per se “illegal” about schechting a cow outside a yiddeshe prescshool and then putting its head and guts inside the yinglach’s classroom, any normal person will understand why this is beyond stupid, I won’t overuse the term “chilul hashem” but if you want to know why we face opposition everywhere to locating new yiddeshe institutions, thank the Bobover.

Its a great story. Probably some kolel learning Shechita and needed a place to do the Hands On thing. It is done regularly, but I understand it was a culure shock for the neighbor.

Look. This is a simple matter of common sense and decency:

No, it was not illegal. Then again, walking into a restaurant in Boro Park in a mini skirt and tube top is not illegal either. However, COMMON SENSE would tell anyone in the neighborhood that it would be grossly inappropriate and create a hostile environment to do so.

If you can’t figure out why, in a residential neighborhood, this would be inappropriate… you have no common sense.

As for those who talk about hunters butchering their kill, this is just not a good example. First of all, most people take their kill to be butchered at an appropriate butchering facility (there are many here in FL around hunting grounds). Some do it at home in more rural areas (farm country), but not in a nursery school yard. I have never heard of a dead cow being brought to a nursery school yard in the middle of the night, hung from a tree and butchered right out in public for anyone to see.

It is clear to me, after living here in Monsey for nearly 25 years, that a significant number of my fellow “Orthodox” Jews in this hamlet have no common sense at all. All you have to do is read these comments on VIN where people try to defend this bizarre inappropriate behavior. Killing and butchering a cow in a school yard (really a home in a private neighborhood) is simply unacceptable. Whether we like it or not, other people watch us closely. Our behavior is scrutinized. When boneheads in our community act like there is no one in the world except them, they do our community a great disservice. I am sure we look like a bunch of morons to the anyone who knows about this.

wow! what a scoop!! COW HEAD FOUND IN CLASSROOM, noch with bloody knives too! honestly this is so comedic. what’s the crime exactly? so they shechted.

The self hating Ms. Friedman had a problem with that. ok. but to carry on like this like it was a murder… really. don’t they have anything more exciting than this going on?

And thanks to Monsey yeshiva kids everyone in my town recieved letters from their schools that our children are not allowed to bring cows to yeshiva anymore.

This is insane! Why would we have a cow to begin with? Do the prinicpals really think every jewish home has a cow now?

The government is drasticaly cutting back on its food programs to the yeshivahs. Besides a good fresh steak once-in-awhile enhances the bochurim’s geshmak for nacht-seder.

what a difference does it make what the truth was. vin shouldnt’ve published this as imaginations by self haters would make a much better fool or moron of another jew or jews.

Whats the problem. there are a couple of board members, there is a manager, etc. one person did know, the others knew nothing. eitherway, what’s the problem? is a kindergarten a day and night holy place that you can’t shecht a cow there? clean it up before the kids come in the morning and what’s the problem! just for us critical people which are not happy with ourselves and are just trying to get a superior feeling by being able to step up on some brother of ours.

We are all special and don’t have to belittle anybody else to get bigger! anything happening to another yid should be like a brother, he did something bad should be disturbing our sleep like a brother not “i told him, I knew it, That little shaygetzel, etc.

Monsey is a town without any shlita. Everyone does what they want. Och in vay to us!!! No wonder the tzoros. Those neighbors are 100% right!!! They are living here for 40 years and I am not a yiddishe anti semite at all but let me tell you the reason they hate us is because of us. We bring it upon ourselves just like we do in Boro Park, Williamsburgh, Flatbush and everywhere else. Shame on us!! What kind of insane mishigas to bring an animal to slaughter to Yeshiva. When was the last time you brought a matzoh bakery to Yeshiva to show the kids. You want to show them how to shecht take them to shechita house to Vineland, New Jersey or something. Next time you think of something like this you beheimos (get the pun) shecht yourselves first.

Yes, Millmouse, the gemalliter, shochtim do make a bracha, BUT that’s becuase its required in order to eat the cow. I or you, however, on a regular day, do NOT have a mitzva to shecht. Get offline & back into ‘smedrash.

    To all you self-hating Jews:

Halal in the streets of Brooklyn and Queens (see the other article on VIN tonight) is okay. But shechita in Monsey? How barbaric!!!

    The double standard is disgusting.

This gets more bizarre each day. There is no doubt in MY mind, that if one of MY neighbors hung up a cow and shechted it, that I would be totally digusted and angry too…this had nothing to do with frum/antisemite. It has to do with having sensitivity to another person, neighbor and community. Thats where the chillul Hashem comes in. shame on you, Bobov, for making Klal Yisroel look bad in the eyes of the community!
