The practice of charging women higher premiums for the same coverage “should be eliminated,” Karen Ignagni, president of American’s Health Insurance Plan, told members of the Senate Finance Committee.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., said, “The disparity between woman and men in the individual insurance market is just plain wrong, and it has to change.”

Kerry introduced a bill to end the practice, which sometimes results in women being charged up to 50 percent more than men for similar policies.

Previously, health insurance executives have said women age 19 to 55 were more likely than men to have higher healthcare costs due to childbearing, a proclivity toward certain chronic illnesses and more routine healthcare habits.

The industry agreed in March to curtail higher premiums for people who are sick. In November, insurers said they would comply with a federal mandate to insure sick and disabled customers if Congress passed a law requiring all citizens to carry health insurance.

So what did the brilliant liberals accomplish that the men are going to pay higher premiums as well since child bearing costs the insurance co. Money(dr. Visit hospital visit) some one has to pay for it but if you can’t charge the women for it (by the way 99.99% of births in the world are by women) they will spread the cost to all insurance policies sold so everyone will pay more just like a smoker pays more for his life insurance and before everyone starts screaming I pay for health insurance for a family of 4 (including my child bearing wife)$15,000.00 per year but I look as part of the expenses its more important than a 2009 brand new Honda

So based on this, auto insurance rates for men should go down as well, since under the logic above, it’s an unfair gender bias to have higher rates for male drivers than for females.

What about men, paying more for car insurance than women. Should there not be equality here too ?

This is even worse in New Jersey where the state law requires every insurance company to insure every applicant regardless of any pre-existing condition, at the same rate, based on age. Because of this, there is no way a family can buy a decent policy on their own for less than $1500 a month. The insurance company has to spread the higher costs of insuring extremely sick people among the entire population.
This law has caused major problems for self employed people in NJ

“As far as I know 99.99 percent ow whomen are bearing a child do to a man so let them atleast share the cost”

Not exactly, as the new trend among liberal single women is to visit a sperm bank and have children without having a husband.

This has been the law for employer-based insurance for decades and has not caused any problems.
