The ruling followed Pope Benedict XVI’s request to be given the title to several of the Christian faith’s holy sites, ahead of his visit to Israel.

The Rabbinate’s Holy Sites Commission convened an emergency session on the matter and it demands the government cease all discussions on the matter.

Will the Vatican allow a search of their records to see if they have Jewish artifacts and return them?

I totally agree here. We should never give up the rights to those sites. However, we could allow the Vatican to maintain them and handle the xian tourists who visit there. So long as we maintain ownership, it takes the burden off of us. That is money we can better spend elsewhere.

Whats the difference if the Vatican has title to some sites in Israel. Its title in name only, its a symbolic gesture thanking the Vatican and the many Christians in America for their continued support of Israel.

I dont understand this “psak”, According to halacha its forbbiden to leave any trace of Avoda Zoro in the holy land, see Chumash that is (according to what Moshe, in name of hashem, told the yiden in the dessert) the “first” requirement upon entering the holy land. so according to the Torah these “holy” christian building or sites should be razed to the ground or burnt, even if this dosent fit with democracy, and Israeli law

I don’t understand. We allow the Greek Orthodox Church to be one of the largest landowners in the entire country, and we openly support evangelicals who want to convert us; what is wrong with the Vatican getting a few sites?

The Rambam did not make a mistake or misinterpreted on his description of the Menorah because the Arch in rome, which dates from bet. 70-81 CE, that shows the original menorah from the Beit ha Miqdash as having CURVED arms is the artists drawing and that artist was not copying exactly .
