(AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster)Washington – President Donald Trump made a televised plea for border wall funding Tuesday night, seeking an edge in the shutdown battle with congressional Democrats as he declared there is “a humanitarian crisis, a crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul.”

Addressing the nation from the Oval Office for the first time, Trump argued for funding on security and humanitarian grounds as he sought to put pressure on newly empowered Democrats amid an extended partial government shutdown.

Trump called on Democrats to return to the White House to meet with him, saying it was “immoral” for “politicians to do nothing.”

Trump, who has long railed against illegal immigration at the border, has recently seized on humanitarian concerns to argue there is a broader crisis that can only be solved with a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. But critics say the security risks are overblown and his administration is at least partly to blame for the humanitarian situation.

Trump has been discussing the idea of declaring a national emergency to allow him to circumvent Congress and move forward with the wall. But he made no mention of such a declaration Tuesday night.

Democrats have vowed to block funding for a wall, which they say would be immoral and ineffective, and have called on Trump to reopen shuttered portions of the government while border negotiations continue.

He does not need funding. He promised Mexico would pay for it.

Fact-free emotional theatrical telepromptoid speech by the Orange Yutz. Immigrants (like your mishpucha) are drug dealers, human traffickers, killers? His argument about being humanitarian is totally phoney. His argument saying that Dems want a ‘steel’ wall is phony disingenuous and full of bull. He’s losing the country and HE OWNS HIS GOVT SHUTDOWN. feh=trumpf

Trump presented distorted facts once again about crimes committed by illegal aliens and said that the trade deal with Mexico, not yet approved by Congress would somehow fund the wall. He failed to explain why Mexico isn’t paying for the wall as he claimed they would many hundreds of times.
Maybe the address appealed to his core supporters, but I’m unconvinced about the need for a taxpayer funded $5 billion wall. I don’t mind if Mexico pays,

Sorry, I missed Tiny’s State of the Shutdown address. Was it Presidential? I understand he mentioned humanitarian concerns, which is certainly a first for him. Is he offering some help for the women and children fleeing violence in Central America who want to clean your homes and bag your groceries?

62% of Americans approve of a wall vs the 35% that don’t.

    He certainly convinced me.

Convinced me the Oval Office needs a major redecoration by a talented interior designer.

Someone who will remove every bit of orange.

    Really nauseating.

I think the humanitarian crisis is grossly exaggerated.
If you look closely, all or almost all of the illegal immigrants are really yoni in disguise (and those who aren’t are yamsar in disguise, who is really also yoni in disguise), so should we be spending billions of dollars on one person with thousands of screen names?

The Orange Yutz screwed up this one but good. So he’d like to build another Berlin Wall like his CCCP pals did, to keep people from freedom and safety here? CLOCK TICKING ON LONGEST GOVT SHUTOWN!

Trump and his unterfuhren persist in promoting the discredited notion that suspected terrorists are pouring into the U.S. from Mexico by the thousands. It’s an unadulterated falsehood…a Hitlerian “big lie,” a preposterous lie which if repeated often enough gets believed by the leaders lemmings.

    Facts?

According to the CATO Institute, not exactly a liberal institution, between 1975 and 2017 only seven individuals from terror “special interest countries” were convicted of planning terrorist attacks in this country. None…NONE…crossed from Mexico…they came in from Canada or jumped ship in US ports.

Not surprising then that despite their portrayal of Mexico as a teeming portal for terrorists, the State Department issued a report in September of 2018 finding “no credible evidence indicating that international terrorist groups have established bases in Mexico, worked with Mexican drug cartels or sent operatives via Mexico into the United States.”
