The rebbe gave his blessing to the initiative, despite the fact that his father, the previous rebbe, had staunchly opposed it and had even issued a letter opposing the popular trend to take such courses. An askan, Shlomo Hirsch, ensured that the course not be given by Magen David Adom personnel and instead be given by a certified expert not affiliated with the quasi-State first aid group.

Three avreichim from the chassidus are now taking the first aid course with the rebbe’s blessing,

“V’nishmartem me’od le’nafshoseichem” — congratulations to those who realize that knowledge of basic life-saving measures is needed and laudatory … not everything the ‘modern’ world has to offer is necessarily treif!

Comment number 4 is somewhat disingenuous. The rebbe gave his blessing to one of his hasidim to study medicine (I know him personally), and personally directed him through his internship in an Israeli hospital (gynecology!). The latter qualified as an MD in the USA. He still lives in Jerusalem and is a member of Toldos Aharon. However, he may not practice medicine in Is because he did not serve in the IDF.

CPR is a necessity to save lives.
“in which outside emergency aid proved unreliable”. Could it be ’cause the cars, bus, police were stopped from entering the neighborhood to provide the help needed?

The name of the individual concerned is known across Jerusalem for his assistance to the community in emergency medical matters. Why should I supply his name and address? According to the Torah, when someone testifies first hand knowledge, he is believed. If you feel justified slinging insults just to satisfy your ideological position, you have a problem.
