Thomas Milhorat, 73, leaves under a cloud Friday after his operating privileges at the Long Island hospital were suspended last month.

He refused to perform an operation after his colleague, Paolo Bolgonese, never showed for the scheduled operation. The female patient was left lying in the OR, prepped for brain surgery.

The patient had to be awakened and told the operation never happened. The state Health Department is investigating the April 10 incident.

Hospital officials said plans for Milhorat’s succession have been in the works for many months given his age.

A new chairman would be announced later this month, officials said.

not really sure why this is his fault. This was not his patient and most MD’s would not perform such a surgery without notice on someone elses patient. Perhaps since he is the head of the department he is guilty by association, but the other MD should take the blame.

Perhaps the next Chairman will only earn 2 Million.
