The price of a first-class stamp is going from 42 cent to 44 cents – the third May increase in as many years.
Postal officials say it will cost the average family just three extra dollars a year. New Yorkers didn’t seem unduly concerned.
“If I had to buy 1,000 stamps, it would be a big deal,” said Liliana Cerilo, 29, picking up a package at a Manhattan post office. “The biggest inconvenience is having to get the new stamps.”
Tom Kirwan, 76, of Sunset Park, Brooklyn, had a handful of letters with 42-cent postage he wanted to mail before the hike.
“Hopefully, they can open more windows with the extra money,” he said, adding that 42 cents to send a letter across the country is still a decent deal.
