Manhattan, NY – A west Village clothing store is offering New Yorkers who took a bath in Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme a hefty break on designers clothing and jewelry.

“Bernie Madoff victims receive 20% discount,” promise the yellow signs posted around the Bleecker Street boutique Konup, at least 10 customers have taken up owner Salvatore Denuccio on his unusual offer.
“A lot of people lost more than their shirts to Madoff, and they need a break,” said Denuccio. “It may sound superficial to offer discounted designer sunglasses and jackets, but a lot of these people are used to the finer things in life.”
The entrepreneur said he truly feels for those who trusted and were betrayed by Madoff – who awaits a probable life sentence next month.
“It’s not just a marketing tool. Although my sign has become quite the topic conversation in the neighborhood. It is actually a way for me to give something back,” he said.
To make sure he’s not getting scammed, Denuccio keeps an official list of victims’ names behind the register and makes sure eligible customers show him identification.
“If just anyone could walk in off the street getting the discount, then I would be the one losing my shirt,” Denuccio said.
i’ll go to the victim list and find a name how will he know i am lying???

only in New York. “Lost the shirt off your back, come let me sell you a new one!”
A very clever marketing gimmick.
As someone who competes with “boutique” & department stores, I can assure you that if you don’t get AT LEAST 50% to 75% off their “regular” price, you’re overpaying.
you can get better than 20% elsewhere
Vizner in willyamsburg will give you batter deals then 20%.
marketing, thats what its all about
the store already sells merchandise at 50% to 80% discount. The 20% is on top of the already discounted merchandise. I bought a pair of ralph lauren shoes for my wife; regular price was $2700, I only paid $ 299…..and I am not a Madoff’s victim.
Great marketing idea and very good prices.
the name of the store is KONTAINER not konup!
