The report follows Trump’s claim on Friday that Abe had nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize for opening talks and easing tensions with North Korea.

The Japanese leader had given him “the most beautiful copy” of a five-page nomination letter, Trump said at a White House news conference.

The U.S. government had sounded Abe out over the Noble Peace Prize nomination after Trump’s summit in June last year with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the first meeting between a North Korean leader and a sitting U.S. president, the Asahi said, citing an unnamed Japanese government source.

A spokesman for Japan’s Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said the ministry was aware of Trump’s remarks, but “would refrain from commenting on the interaction between the two leaders.”

The White House had no immediate comment when contacted by Reuters.

The Nobel Foundation’s website says a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize may be submitted by any person who meets the nomination criteria, which includes current heads of states. Under the foundation’s rules, names and other information about unsuccessful nominations cannot be disclosed for 50 years.

Why do I have this urge to puke?

To: #1 - Trump should receive the Nobel Peace Prize, because no other American President, since North Korea was created at the end of World War Two, ever had any dialogue with a North Korean leader. Since Trump prevented a major war, on the Korean Peninsula, and saved thousands of lives, (including many American soldiers), he should receive that prize, no matter how much you personally hate Trump. Your remark was despicable and reprehensible!!

We were only on the brink of war with North Korea in Delusional Donald’s mind. He created the threat with his threat of his button being bigger than Kim Jongs. Was button a euphemism for something else?
I have asked the leaders of 2 nations, Nauru and Tuvalu to nominate me for the Nobel Prize which I feel I deserve.

The Nobel Prize voters will reject Psycho Donnie 100% due to his racism and anti-women rants. They are educated, cultured people who promote peace and equality, not hate and bigotry. And N Korea is a sideshow that has accomplished nothing so far.

To Phineas-You are the one who is not only ignorant, but has ZERO knowledge of the Korean War, and its aftermath. During the period of 1966-1969, the USA and N. Korea were involved in the DMZ war, in which over three dozen GI’s were killed. In January, 1968, the North Koreans seized the USS Pueblo, killing an American sailor, and capturing the crew of nearly 100 men. They tortured, humiliated, starved, abused, and beat the crew for nearly a year, until they were released. N. Korea still has that ship. In 1969, the North Koreans shot down an unarmed U.S. Air Force transport plane, killing dozens of airmen. In 1976, they savagely attacked and killed several GI’s with an axe, at the truce village by the 38th parallel. It was just a matter of time, before the North Koreans opened up with their thousands of artillery pieces aimed at Seoul. Millions, including thousands of our GI’s would have been killed. No other President in the last seventy years, had the guts to tackle this problem. Facts are facts, whether you, and your uneducated meshpucha on this site, want to accept that. Case closed!
