Washington – President Donald Trump on Tuesday took a step toward creating a U.S. Space Force, a new branch of the military dedicated to handling threats in space.

Trump signed Space Policy Directive 4, which puts in place the foundation for a legislative initiative that could establish a Space Force as a new military service comparable to the U.S. Marines.
In an oval office signing ceremony, Trump said the Space Force is a national security priority.
The memo directs the Department of Defense “to marshal its space resources to deter and counter threats in space,” through the establishment of the force that would be part of the Air Force, according to a draft seen by Reuters.
Establishing the Space Force will require Congressional approval.
In August, the Trump Administration announced an ambitious plan to usher in the force as the sixth branch of the military by 2020.
Another failure for TRump.
8 months ago, TRump was “directing the Department of Defense and Pentagon to immediately begin the process necessary to establish a space force as the sixth branch of the armed forces.”
Now …
Today, TRump directed the Pentagon to create legislation for Congress that would place the Space Force under the control of the Air Force Department, in a fashion similar to how the Navy Department oversees the Marine Corps.
This Is a win for senior Air Force officials, who had argued that creating a separate military department — as Trump had stated he wanted — would create unnecessary Pentagon bureaucracy.
It will be under the Air Force. NOT the 6th branch. It is already a part of the USAF.
And how proud of his failure. Just look at the picture.
A waste of money, creating a new bureaucracy, as the U.S. Air Force is perfectly capable of this assignment. Ronald Reagan was once quoted as stating that “it is about time that the federal government went on a diet”. We don’t need more bloated bureaucracies, adding to the budget deficit.
