The Democratic mayor says the traffic stop occurred Saturday while he was heading to a legislative event in Albany.
The New York Post reports de Blasio saw a driver texting in the car next to his on the FDR Drive in Manhattan.
De Blasio said on Tuesday that the woman needed an “on-the-spot education” about the dangers. The lesson included a ticket.
It is illegal for New York drivers to use mobile devices. Fines can range from $50 for a first offense to $400 for more than three violations.
He only has ” Our interest at heart ” …Don’t you think !!!
Bravo, How many times do people need to be warned, how many accidents need to happen because people behind the wheel are irresponsible. I wish more people texting, or on the phone while driving are fined….Read the book: A Deadly Wondering-you will never drive the same way again.
Hashem Yishmor.
I’m glad that he did it; last summer, on the way to Baltimore, I was almost sideswiped by a car, because the idiot, stupid, and reckless driver was more interested in texting, than keeping his eyes on the road. In addition to giving them a ticket, their cell phones should be removed for 30 days for the first offense, 90 days for the second, and 6 months for the third. After the third offense, their licenses should be suspended for one year.
Never mind the fine, which I’m pretty sure is higher than $50 for the first time, the 5 points are the real issue!
I was personally given a cell phone ticket for eating a Larabar. Somehow the cop “saw” better than me. Thankfully it was dismissed. Cops abuse their power all the time.
this from a jerk , who speeds, goes thru red lights and cuts in and out of lane, yeah right
While stopping texting is a good thing, the police regularly overstep their boundaries. I personally know of a Rov who was stopped by a cop and given a ticket for using a cellphone while driving – except that he doesn’t even own a cellphone. To go fight the ticket means taking a day off, going down to the traffic court, waiting for your case… nothing but hassle.
