Postville, IA – Federal prosecutors today filed a 142-count criminal indictment against former managers at Agriprocessors Inc., the struggling Postville slaughterhouse, and increased the number of immigration charges against former plant executive Sholom Rubashkin.

Rubashkin and his former plant now face 71 counts of harboring undocumented aliens for profit, according to the indictment.
The indictment names Rubashkin, the plant itself, and three former managers as defendants in an alleged scheme to harbor illegal immigrants, defraud creditors, falsify documents and defy a 2002 order from the U.S. secretary of agriculture.
Rubashkin’s lawyer, Guy Cook, said his client will plead not guilty to all charges.
Bob Teig, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office, said each new immigration charge was filed in connection to an individual immigrant who was harbored at the plant for financial gain.
The amended indictment comes little more than a year after federal agents raided the kosher meat plant and arrested 389 suspected illegal immigrants. Most operations have since ceased at Agriprocessors, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to shield itself from creditors.
It all comes a day after prosecutors dropped federal identity-theft allegations in the wake of a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that undermined those charges.
The new indictment, the sixth filed since October 2008, replaces a 79-count indictment issued in March. Rubashkin’s trial is scheduled for Sept. 9 in U.S. District Court.
It seems like every other week evuv shabbos or yom tov we have another Rubashkin indicment or allegation…..I would assume there will be some kind of plea agreement whereby he will serve a short prison term and be over with this charade.
They wanna put him in jail ! period. I hope he has enough counter proof against the allegations.Remeber an inditment does not mean they have proof 100 %.
No there should be no plea agreement b/c of the new 142 count indictment. This is the way the prosecution is applying pressure because Rubashkin is not pleading to what they want him to plead.
Now that he is out on bail,; If the prosecution keeps up amending the indictments and adding charges the defense should ask to push of the trial for another year so, that they can adequately prepare. It will get to the point where the judge will just throw out the new and amended charges to keep the case moving.
For the love of G-d have they nothing else to do. The stupid town is dead, the immigrants are without a means to support themselves and their families, the frum world is experiencing a dearth of kosher meat, and Rubsahkins life has been ruined. The Govt has alot of nerve. They are too busy sending stimunous checks to people who barel set foot in the USA and they have time to go after a defunct business and a humiliated man. Why dont they indict nancy pelosi for lying and leave Rubashkin alone.
It seems like they were upset at having to drop the old charges so they just piled on some new ones on the same underlying events. This statute probably doesn’t use the word “knowingly”.
It doesn’t change anything. Even if he’s convicted, there’s nothing wrong with helping illegal aliens, whether for profit or just as a chessed. Every single one of us would have done the same as those Guatemalans, and would want someone to do for us what Rubashkin did for them.

UNBELIEVABLE! murderers and robbers don’t get all those counts, low life criminals don’t get that much attention, but Rubashkin they will torture for employing 16 and 17 year old people (for full pay).
I hate to saw this, but Sholom Mordechai is not going to walk from this one. Unfortunately, he is facing hard time.
We all love to point at one or two charges and say… “No proof”..
But there are enough with really solid proof to put him away for many years.
We will have to work very hard, after his conviction, to try to have his sentence be the minimum possible. Hopefully, Moshiach will come.
Iam possitive that this late indictment, will push of the trial again, it might be used to Rabbi Shaloms benfit, if he tries to keep the date, and the feds aren’t ready yet, they can very rarly ask for extension under the speedy trial act, let’s hope evrything is for the good.

The longer this circus takes, the more chance there is that the prosecutor’s true color’s will be seen, and the case will fall apart.
For all those that were harsh against Rubashkin, it is becoming obvious to anyone watching, that the prosecutor has an agenda.
I never knew that they can indict a plant. Are they also going to arrest the plant? Does the plant have to show up in court? What happens if the plant smacks the judge in the face?
I think the plant should claim insanity and not capable of standing trial!

Gentlemen, The fact is that the present and past presidents have one nothing to hurt the status of most illegal immigrants. Rubashkins should have been gien fines and the workers confiscated. Also, if the Geniuses who describe the workers as ‘criminals” would have read the Supreme Court decision and the district attys dropping significant portions of Sholom Rubashkin’s indictments u would have not said what u did and understand the situation better.
After worldwide publicity , the pressure of the unions (like the Chrsyler creditors rights disregarded in their Bankruptcy rights for the benefit of the Unions) and the disgraceful judgement this week and the ruination of the town of Pottsville-what did u expect the prosecuters to do. Start with fresh indictments. This does not mean that the Rubashkin’s are innocent just that the prosecuters must start a new agenda due to the Boosha and humiliation they suffered this week. Let us hope that chilul Hashem csn be spared and the parties work out this entire matter once and for all!

This is a jewhunt. Millions of people or buisneses use illeagal alians. These guys tried to stand up to the unions, who are killing our economy, and got ratted out. The feds are hurting entire comunities in this Jewhunt. Hashem yishmor.
The town now realizes that they have committed financial and real estate suicide, so they are lashing out in misplaced anger and revenge against those who helped put them on the map.
