There was an uproar in Germany and even among the Turkish community there, over comments that Hakan Kivanc allegedly made in private in a meeting with non-governmental organizations.

Kivanc allegedly said that if Germans had the chance, they would tattoo the letter “T” on the forehead of every Turk, like the yellow badge Nazis forced Jews to wear.

He also reportedly said if one cut open a German, the spilled blood would be brown, a color that is associated with Nazis.

The Turkish foreign ministrysaid said that Kivanc has gone on leave, but rejected claims that Ankara withdrew him.
“The reports do not reflect the truth. Our consul-general in Duesseldorf, Hakan Kivanc, is currently on leave,” the ministry said in a brief statement.

A Turkish diplomatic source said Kivanc would return to his job in Duesseldorf once he returns from leave, but did not say how long the diplomat would be away.
