“We were treating him very aggressively,” said Flushing Hospital spokesman Ole Pedersen. “Unfortunately, he did expire at 6:17 p.m. this evening.”
The sick man, Mitchell Wiener, 55, an assistant principal at IS 238 in Jamaica Estates, first fell ill more than a week ago, but didn’t seek help at the hospital until his symptoms became severe early Wednesday morning.
Since that time, he’s been in a medically induced coma, on a ventilator.
Just hours before his death, his wife, Bonnie, said there were hopeful signs.
“There’s no change,” she told The Post earlier today. “He’s stabilized. They’re just giving him supporting care and hoping the treatment will kick in.”
According to Newsday He and his wife were active members of Garden Jewish Center until a few years ago, Rabbi Martin Cooper said. Mitchell Wiener served on the synagogue’s board of directors and as treasurer in the late 1990s.
“He has a very warm personality,” Cooper said. “He is very well-liked in the congregation.”
oh my, that’s so sad. BD’E.
Baruch Dayan Haemes. May Hashem comfort his family during this difficult time.
Very very sad indeed. But why the first death in nyc, why not in the usa? Can anyone update me please?
Is this thing that catchy or not?

THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR VIN READERS:
Swine Flu virus must be treated within the FIRST 48 HOURS — YOU MUST SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR THIS FLU DURING THE FIRST TWO DAYS OF SYMPTOMS.
DO NOT WAIT.
The tragedy is that THIS PATIENT WAITED TOO LONG. By the time he sought medical help, it was too late for the Tami-Flu Rx to halt the illness.
Very sad.
If I remember correctly there has been 1 or more deaths in Texas, US. But the swine flu only caused deaths in people that unfortunately had preexisting medical conditions… These people would have died from a reg flu too!
Wow, this is so sad. I hope people go straight to the doctor at the onset of the first symptom, then it is still curable if it is caught early
anyone can please refresh the symptons to be looking out for, thanks.
May Hashem give the family strength!
Please keep in mind that over 30,000 people a year die from the regular flu. Yes people will die from Swine Flu, but no more or maybe even less then people who die from the regular flu. I don’t get all the hype.
R”L!! MAy HKB”H Comfort the family!!
