Jerusalem - Gaza militants fired at least 10 rockets toward Israel after an Israeli airstrike destroyed the offices of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, as air raid sirens wailed across southern Israel.

Israeli media report at least 10 missiles fired toward the southern Israeli town of Sderot late Monday. There are no immediate reports of casualties.

Gaza’s Hamas rulers say Egypt has brokered a cease-fire to end the latest round of fighting with Israel.

Hamas media says the cease-fire went into effect at 10 p.m. (2000 GMT) Monday. There was no immediate Israeli reaction.

The announcement came shortly after several rockets were fired into Israel, setting off air raid sirens throughout the south.

The latest escalation of violence began early Monday when a rocket fired from Gaza struck a home in central Israel, wounding seven people. Israel has vowed to respond “forcefully,” raising the prospect of a fourth war between Israel and Gaza’s militant Hamas rulers.

Israel opened public bomb shelters in most major cities and civil defense authorities canceled sports events and public transportation in southern Israel.

Israel struck targets throughout Gaza late Monday in response to a rocket attack that struck a house and wounded seven people in central Israel.

The Israeli military says it struck a five-story building in Gaza City that “serves the terror organization’s military wing.” The building houses Hamas administrative offices belonging to the organization’s domestic intelligence agency.

An Israeli airstrike destroyed another multi-story building that the military said was a secret Hamas headquarters.

The Gaza Health Ministry says one Palestinian was wounded in an Israeli airstrike.

Col. Ronen Manelis, an Israeli military spokesman, says the Israeli barrage is “expected to continue for hours to come.”

I await reports of huge numbers of dead Hamas members. There is no amount of bombing that will otherwise make any difference.

No expert am I; but maybe it's time to take out Hamas leadership? When Israel did that during the 2nd Infidata, it was peaceful for awhile. Cut off the heads of the snake!

You are correct, but the world owes a debt of gratitude to Stalin - without Russia occupying Nazi Germany on the eastern front, Hitler would have captured all of Europe and forced the United States into a peace deal at best.

Here is an idea Mr Brave Armchair Soldier: why don't you come on Aliya and join the IDF.

Seems to me there must be a number of factions in Gaza. Any one of them might fire a few rockets to cause trouble with both the Israelis and the local leadership.

correct!
Hamas call always call for a 'cease fire' since that is what Israel wants, but it is only so temporary, meaning until they set up more rockets to kill us with.
without the blood of Hamas leaders flooding the streets, cease fire is totally the wrong path to peace....

Here you go again, implicitly supporting terror. You minimize the attacks, essentially approving them. Well, shame on you.

Hamas is the recognized authority, and has a choke hold on all factions there. That's why Israel holds them responsible for all activity.

If Hamas objected to these rockets, etc., they would stop it. But they don't even try or care to see these attacks stopped. There is no "trouble with the local leadership".

The only answer is to bomb away to give all of these groups major numbers of fatalities. Yep. The more carcasses, the better.

Really? Is that the case? I would have figured at least a couple of foreign forces keep a few splinter groups going.
