“The future of terrorism will not only be characterized by 9/11-style attacks but would also emanate from homegrown cells, spread out in cities across America who would seek to deprive us of the normalcy of a free society,” the center said in a statement.

“The Simon Wiesenthal Center praised the FBI for interdicting four would-be American-born, Islamist terrorists as they planted what they thought were C-4 explosives at one Bronx, New York synagogue and planned to target a second one on Wednesday night, May 20, 2009.”

“As we have said many times before, the future of terrorism will not only be characterized by 9/11-style attacks but would also emanate from homegrown cells, spread out in cities across America who would seek to deprive us of the normalcy of a free society,” said Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, founder and dean and associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

“We urge all Jewish institutions, in coordination with their local law enforcement agencies to tighten the security of all communal facilities,” they added.

“The targeting of any house of prayer in the United States is a threat to all religious groups and all religious leaders have an obligation to speak out publicly against this planned outrage. We further urge Muslim leaders to use their Friday sermons to explicitly and specifically condemn those who promote such terror in the name of Islam.”

Last week, the Wiesenthal Center released its 2009 report on Digital Terrorism and Hate, (as was reported here on VIN News). “The Internet is rife with extremist websites denegrating Judaism and Christianity and with detailed manuals as to how to prepare and carry out terrorist attacks,” Rabbi Cooper added.

Ain somchin al hanes. We can not rely on a miracle. Of this famous saying we must take heed. We can not expect nothing to happen, these days where ever jews gather regulary should be treated LIKE a Makom Sakana (a dangerous place) and ever means of security possible (btw Govt gives out security aid to instituions) should be implemented.

With the contious Study of our Torah, Prayers, Charity and Good Deeds. May Hashem protect us from all those who wish to do evil with us.

Moderation is the Key, Striking the proper balance is the question!

I think it’s high time Jews should arm and train themselves on self defense.
As the great Mike Savadge always says: if Jews would have come out shooting instead of begging (for their lives) there would have not been 6 million victims.

How do you boost security? An armed guard at every shul and yeshiva?

Yes. A uniformed, armed guard at every shul and yeshiva, day and night. Better yet, do what a certain out-of-town community did and ensure that there is always someone in every shul with a gun.

Surveillance systems, burglar alarms, and panic buttons with wireless remotes in every shul and yeshiva. Every gabbai or shammes should have a wireless remote that connects to the police- trust me, they come running when they get what they call a “verified panic signal”. Yes, even in Boro Park and Flatbush!

Very few mosdos have adequate security because it’s very expensive. An incident will ch”vs be even more expensive.
