Someone walked into a garage at Temple Moses at 1200 Normandy Dr. and set wood logs on fire, said Detective Jenny Velazquez, a Miami Beach police spokeswoman.
The fire was contained to the garage.
”The fire department got there fairly quickly and it didn’t spread,” Velazquez said.
The fire was captured on surveillance video, which police have not released to the media.
Arson detectives are investigating, and no arrests have been made.
The ADL sent out a statement condemning the fire and saying they had spoken with the temple’s rabbi.
”While the motive for this arson is still unknown, this cowardly criminal act not only impacts the congregation of Temple Moses, but the entire Jewish community,” said Andrew L. Rosenkranz, the Florida regional director for the ADL. “It is truly disheartening to see a house of worship become the target of arson.”
