The children all from the 6th, 7th and 8th grades were lined up outside during a graduation picture shoot when the grating collapsed. All the injuries to 36 children involved seem to be minor.

Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov Hikind cut short a meeting at his Borough Park office this morning when the news came in of a reportedly mass-casualty event of undetermined nature at the Shaare Torah girls’ school on Ocean Parkway, the State Assemblyman told VIN.

Hikind “ran to the school,” only to thankfully find out, along with the public, that the incident was not a deliberate attack of any sort.

“After what happened a few days ago in the Bronx with the shul plotters, I can’t begin to tell you what ran though my mind,” he said in an exclusive phone conversation. “I was sitting in my office. All of a sudden I get this message that there is a mass casualty at a school, which, it is interesting, had swastikas a few months ago… All I can say is, ‘Boruch Hashem nothing happened. It’s a real miracle.”

The incident occurred when an outdoor grate covering a cellar window well gave way, leaving several students with moderate injuries at the bottom, including broken bones. Two students were rushed to Lutheran Hospital with possible fractures. Seven others students suffered minor injuries, and were taken to Maimonides Medical Center and Methodist Hospital.

The Department of Buildings issued a violation for failure to maintain the grate.

Was on the scene a minute after it happened. The quick response by Hatzolah and the well coordination was just amazing. I don’t know who this member is (Moshe Chaim something) but he coordinated the scene with such specialty. It was an amazing sight to see 10 Hatzolah ambulances lined up side by side on Ocean Parkway.

There are 2 patients with fractures, the rest are minor aches and pains.
CBS report of 2 critical patients is absolutely incorrect.
As for the response, I must say that I rest easier seeing how our community is able to so proffesionally respond to such a scene, and work so well together with FDNY, EMS, NYPD, Shomrim, etc.
It is these types of events that they train for, and their training paid off.

Thank G-D for everything but still remember, even fractures are serious and I hope all the injured have injuries with a perfect prognosis. Even to have injuries that heal but leave limited mobility, pain or weakness is a tragedy at this age.
