Brooklyn, NY – The MTA has identified the driver who allegedly made discriminatory remarks to a Chasidic passenger earlier this month referring the large number of reported cases of the highly contagious virus that has swept through Williamsburg’s Jewish community, placing her on restrictive duty while it investigates the incident.

While not publicly naming the bus operator, An MTA spokesperson told VIN News that the driver is not currently engaged in any activity that is directly involved in passenger service while it investigates the complaint.
As previously reported on VIN News (http://bit.ly/2ZIOY6l), the driver reportedly covered her face with her sweater as an obviously Chasidic man boarded her bus at Flushing and Franklin avenues, after having refused to stop for the man just seconds earlier. When the passenger asked for a transfer, the bus driver reportedly said “Go in, measles.”
Currently, 423 confirmed cases of measles have been reported in Brooklyn and Queens since October, the vast majority of which have involved members of the Orthodox Jewish community. As of Sunday, 21,284 MMR vaccinations have been given in Williamsburg and Borough Park to children ages 18 and under in response to the ongoing measles outbreak.
The MTA will do bupkis vis-a-vis disciplining the driver, especially if the driver is a member of a “minority group”.
