REUTERS/Shannon Stapleton/File PhotoNew York – The Health Department today announced that it will host a tele-townhall to provide parents and community members with scientifically and medically accurate information on the danger of measles and the benefits of vaccination. Dr. Michael Phillips and Dr. Jennifer Lighter from NYU School of Medicine will be on the line to answer New Yorkers’ questions about the vaccine and measles.

The tele-town hall will be moderated by the Health Department’s Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Demetre Daskalakis. This tele-townhall is part of a larger strategy to combat anti-vaxx misinformation.

“This outbreak is being fueled by a small group of anti-vaxxers in these neighborhoods. They have been spreading dangerous misinformation based on fake science,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot. “We stand with the majority of people in this community who have worked hard to protect their children and others at risk.”

The tele-townhall will run from 6 PM-7 PM; to join, call (917) 983-4660

Wow anyone tuned in? That was so informative! The dr. Says that vaccines are totally really safe with zero, get that, ZERO side effects besides for maybe low grade fever and or soreness in injection site! I hesitated w
hen giving vaccines but after hearing this, I ran to vaccinate my six month old! After all, the only side effect is that he will be immune! For life! Why would i pass up such an opportunity? Especially in this deadly measles outbreak of 700 ppl where, since January, no one has died…I will also conclude from this telethon that Vaccine Adverse Events Reaction Database established by our govt to monitor vaccine safety is totally inaccurate since it lists 126 deaths from the MMR vaccine from 2003-2017…thats not even possible since vaccines are totally safe! I will not trust HHS and CDC misinformation! Dr.jen lighter knows better! Vaccines are totally safe and effective! Measles is absolutely dangerous! We’ve had 3 deaths in the U.S from measles since 2003! We must vaccinate and eradicate! Everyone!
