New York - The Health Department today announced that it will host a tele-townhall to provide parents and community members with scientifically and medically accurate information on the danger of measles and the benefits of vaccination. Dr. Michael Phillips and Dr. Jennifer Lighter from NYU School of Medicine will be on the line to answer New Yorkers’ questions about the vaccine and measles.

The tele-town hall will be moderated by the Health Department’s Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Demetre Daskalakis. This tele-townhall is part of a larger strategy to combat anti-vaxx misinformation.

“This outbreak is being fueled by a small group of anti-vaxxers in these neighborhoods. They have been spreading dangerous misinformation based on fake science,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot. “We stand with the majority of people in this community who have worked hard to protect their children and others at risk.”

The tele-townhall will run from 6 PM-7 PM; to join, call (917) 983-4660

Wow anyone tuned in? That was so informative! The dr. Says that vaccines are totally really safe with zero, get that, ZERO side effects besides for maybe low grade fever and or soreness in injection site! I hesitated w
hen giving vaccines but after hearing this, I ran to vaccinate my six month old! After all, the only side effect is that he will be immune! For life! Why would i pass up such an opportunity? Especially in this deadly measles outbreak of 700 ppl where, since January, no one has died...I will also conclude from this telethon that Vaccine Adverse Events Reaction Database established by our govt to monitor vaccine safety is totally inaccurate since it lists 126 deaths from the MMR vaccine from 2003-2017...thats not even possible since vaccines are totally safe! I will not trust HHS and CDC misinformation! Dr.jen lighter knows better! Vaccines are totally safe and effective! Measles is absolutely dangerous! We've had 3 deaths in the U.S from measles since 2003! We must vaccinate and eradicate! Everyone!

You exclaim with great glee and sarcasm that "in this deadly measles outbreak of 700 ppl where, since January, no one has died" as if that proves anything.
Many have wound-up in the hospital, many in the ICU. Neither of those is good.
700 people and no deaths but it really just a matter of time.
The mortality rate is around 1/1,000: do the math.
The truth is that the MMR has a serious adverse event rate of about 1/3,000,000.
Yet you're so worried about a literally less than one-in-a-million chance that you'll change it for a one-in-a-thousand?
And while you're at it, you put others in the community at risk!
While you scoff at people like Drs. Phillips and Lighter, recognize that they spent years in training and have decades of experience in infectious diseases while all you bring to the table is sarcasm and scientific illiteracy.

Really? Adverse reaction is 1/3,000,000 for mmr? Check out your facts on the CDC website itself! Ignorance is indeed bliss.
While drs spend years studying medicine, they get about 1 hour of education re: vaccines, which mainly consists of knowing how important they are and what the schedule is. Non about its risks. Did you ever read the package insert of the mmr? See its ingredients? Side effects? Check out these informative facts with its sources. All backed by science. www.rodefshalom613.org
All im hearing is how anti vaxxers are pseudo-science but have not heard even 1 scientific resource proving vaccine safety. Which is the reason why I, a vaccinated individual who has dutifully vaccinated my children, has decided to research the matter thoroughly. What I found has pained and astounded me, as it will to anyone digging a bit deeper than the superficial bumper sticker called "safe and effective". Which is the reason why ppl. Cover their ears. As i said, ignorance is bliss

Chilul hashem, really? Which part? Soon youll say ita a chillul hashem to dress tznius cuz its abusing children they can get overheated in the summer...one sticking to his principles doesnt create a chilul hashem, rather jews living in disunity does. Jews speaki ng against one another, calling someone whose personal views doesnt align with yours as 'crazy'. This causes a major chilul hashem.
And do you believe the jew haters will love us once every jew is vaccinated?Recheck our history. Shebchol dor v'dor...in the holocaust, some believed by conforming to the germans they will find favor in their eyes and not be affected... I beseech you all..OPEN UP YOUR EYES, Arouse from your sleep! Let us unite as one,, despite our different beliefs and ultimately bring the much needed geulah!

Measles was effectively eradicated in the US in 2000, but now with all the anti-vaxxers has it seen a revival. (and with a major outbreak of anti-vaxxers in the frum community, it has caused a a backlash against Jews)
Read a package of any drug and the possible side effects and you will read the same thing. Doctors give shots all the time, dont you think that 10, 25, 40 years of experience of hundreds of thousands of doctors worldwide is worth a lot more than your few hours of reading websites? You haven't obviously read real medical reports from doctors who say they are safe.
There are risks with everything and not all people are the same, and there is still a lot yet to be discovered, but do cancer patients not take chemotherapy treatments because it has adverse effects?
If vaccines were so bad for you, there would be a direct scientific link and you would see many more cases of adverse effects (I'm not sure what you claim there would be).
For most people, the benefits of the vaccines outweigh the risks - which may be a rash or allergic reaction. Additionally, not all vaccines are equal, just like all medications, some are safer than others, and your medical history.

Fyi, measles was never eradicated and will never disappear, as long as there is a vaccine for it. The mmr is a live vaccine which can shed, and 6% of those getting the vaccine will have a 'measles-like' reaction, which in essence means they will get the disease from the vaccine. (As per CDC clinical studies) In this current outbreak, i already know of 3 people like this. So as long as theres the vaccine, itll be around.
How can you compare this to chemo for cancer patients? Chemo is treating an life existing life threatening illness, while mmr is preventing normal childhood diseases. The entire discussion here is risks vs. Benefit. We need to make an analysis, are the risks of vaccine side effects still better than the risks involved with the diseases they prevent? No, not everyone gets immediate adverse reactions, but each person should be entitled to decide what they are risking. Vaccines are risky and so is measles. We gotta weigh the risks and benefits of each and make an informed decision, not just nod along with whatever Big Pharma is promoting. As with the cancer patient, most will chose chemo despite its unpleasant side effects since its a choice bet that or death. Measles is not death, although pharma is working hard to portray it as such. Just plain nisht geshmak. May lead to complications, just like the vaccine preventing it.
