    New York – Lew Fidler, a former New York City Councilmember who was active for many years in Democratic politics, has died. He was 62.

    Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said Fidler died on Sunday.

    Fidler had been working in the borough president’s office until his passing, and Adams issued a statement calling him “a man of high integrity and strong moral values.”

    Fidler had been part of the New York City Council from 2002 until 2013, representing neighborhoods in southeastern Brooklyn.

    City Council Speaker Corey Johnson said Fidler was a “passionate champion for runaway and homeless youth” who had made the lives of thousands of young people better.

    He is survived by his wife and two sons.
