Sources said that it appears that everyone who lives in the building has been accounted for and that it appears that no one was in the building at the time of the crash, which took place at approximately 11:30 PM.

Baruch Moskovitz, executive coordinator of Flatbush Shomrim Safety Patrol, said that a call came in on the Shomrim hotline reporting the accident and advising the patrol that several black men had been spotted fleeing the accident scene at 496 Avenue P.

A Shomrim member responding to the call spotted a man with blood dripping down his face running south on Ocean Parkway at Kings Highway. The unnamed Shomrim member stopped the man and asked him what had happened.

“He said that he had been in an accident so our member told him to sit down,” Moskovitz told VIN News. “It turned out that he was the driver.”

Several other Shomrim members arrived at the scene as did the NYPD who detained the driver.

Four other people who were reportedly in the car fled the scene and have yet to be identified.

The building reportedly collapsed a few moments after the initial impact.

Sharing photos of the fallen structure on Twitter, the FDNY reported that it had more than 100 members at the accident scene and that a search is continuing for any possible victims who might be trapped in the rubble.
