A press conference elaborating on the decision is planned for tomorrow morning outside of his parents’ home in Brooklyn.

Marie Ternes, spokesperson for Weiner, stated “Anthony has said he is making up his mind. The campaign will announce a decision when Anthony is ready to.”

Weiner’s departure would leave Comptroller Bill Thompson and Council Member Tony Avella on the Democratic side competing for the nomination to face Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Thompson has been endorsed by former Mayor David Dinkins and Harlem Congressman Charlie Rangel.

its a pity on us that bloomberg will win this election without any competition just by the fact that he has money. what the world has come to.

Too bad..the guy seems like a real mensch (although a bit too liberal for me). I would like to have seen some token opposition to Bloomberg but its not going to happen. I wish Wiener hatzlacha

Kol hakovod for Rep. Wiener for realizing that Bloomberg is destined to win another term and not engaging in a divisive election at a time we need unity. Maybe we can save the cost of a an election and use the money for tax relief.

I’m giving up my car. I expect if Bernie Bloomy wins the price of meter parking will change to a dollar a minute.
A ticket will cost 500 dollars.
    Towing will cost 1000 dollars.
Toll will be implemented on both sides coming in and going out of town.
On every overpass on the BQE there would be a toll booth.
After all we got to understand that the city needs to make money.

bloomberg is the best man for the job anyway. Why all the comments about his money who cares? NY (and given NY”S importance the whole U.S.)is definitely better with him then any other candidate currently in the mix. He is also a friend to all of us and most of our values concerns

He’s smarter than I thought he was. He’s still a member of the old boys (you’ll be taken care of) club, and hopefully he’ll land on this feet. If its on his agenda, perhaps now he’ll find time to meet a kallah.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Mr. Wiener is a hyper partisan Democrat with a strong liberal streak. In these financial troubling times we cannot afford that. Unfortunately, NY city and state has become a one party entity. Absent choice, true democracy fails. As far as the presumptive winner of the upcoming elections, Mr. Bloomberg, I’m not sure what party he will run under however, I will not be voting for him. We the people of New York have passed term limits, we have spoken. Bloomberg managed to circumnavigate the law to keep his power hungry self in office. This tyrant needs to go. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem as this will be the reality come election day. We need someone who understands that the government is not the answer to all what ails and that smaller government is better government. As Ronald Reagen once said: “The ten most frightening words in the English language are: I’m from the government and I’m here to help you”. Learn it, live it.
