An estimated 60,000 small businesses spanning 55 categories are licensed in one way or another by New York City. But some of these licenses and other regulations affecting businesses could soon be things of the past.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg promised to establish a panel to strip away rules and regulations that unnecessarily burden city agencies, consumers and businesses. Heads of city agencies and council members David Yassky and James Oddo are expected to participate.

Indeed, Mr. Oddo and the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce have sent letters to borough businesses asking for help identifying the most outdated, ineffective or overly-complex city regulations.
The councilman said he will compile a Top 10 list from the results.

Council Speaker Christine Quinn has circulated a similar letter, announcing a pilot program for city agencies to review proposed regulations that may adversely affect small businesses.

Now it’s your turn. If you were appointed to the panel, what are the top three recommendations you would make?

Wow. In the “Obama regulate everything world”, we have someone who is saying enough. Bloomberg should be reelected just for this. It will start filtering to other places also.

I would make a new rule that will cut the DOT court system, I am sure the city spends millions a year on them.
how about the cops ticket every single car parked on the street, every single day, they ticket most of us anyway.
this will bring in to the city more money without being able to fight it, this will eliminate all the brown cars, 1 cop can scan each vin# and ticket all boropark from 11:00 pm till 5:00am
the city would also save on gas for the cars.
    what do you guys think?

And that is exactly the reason why the building department ADDED requriements for contractors and is still adding more.
I think every business should have a license by the building department reshoim and then everything will be settled.
There will be only 1 crazy agency to deal with

After almost 8 years being mayor and creating more hardship, he now forms this “task force”. Do I hear elections??
    This guy needs to go.

Well let’s see: there used to a simple once a year sprinkler system inspection which the mayor turned into a MONTHLY inspection routine which costs monthly for a plumber to show instead or yearly.

The entire DOB HPD and Landmarks could be eliminated because they only exist to push paper and make lives miserable.

As fed up as I am with this “Bloom stein”:as mayor, the unfortunate truth is that he is a million times better than any of the other Liberal candidates who would have us paying much higher taxes to support the housing projects/sec 8/Medicaid for those that don’t want to work, at least not “on the books” but who’s politicians can get out their vote.
If any of the other Whiners or Tomskins or the Speaker who does not want to marry……a man, we”ll be overrun by welfare recipients and gays.
I wish I could leave New York

I would recommend that Bloomberg not be in charge of anything and none of his flunkies should be in charge either!! Let’s not let Bloomberg run our lives into the ground!!! The man is trying to bury us in tickets, taxes, and tsures!!! Why can’t he leave us keep a dime in our pocket!??? Why does he have to be so greedy?? I hope that VIN posts this. Good Yom Tov!!

This whole Consumer affairs license should be changed.
Why do I have to pay $340 every 2 years for a license to operate a electronic store? I have no problem with the Consumer affairs but why these prices? They should have a registration fee of $25 a year and if someone is cought with a violation he shouldd pay a fine.
