The Central UTA Satmar School for Boys, a Hasidic school in the Williamsburg neighborhood, will be closed Tuesday afternoon for violating the stipulations regarding vaccines and vaccination records, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency has learned. It is the 10th Orthodox school in New York City to be closed this year due to the issue, according to a city official with knowledge of the matter.

Williamsburg, which has a large Orthodox population, has been experiencing a measles outbreak since last year that has infected 588 people in New York City. The city says the outbreak is largely concentrated in the Orthodox community.

In April, the city declared a public health emergency over the outbreak, mandating people in four Williamsburg Zip codes to vaccinate. The city also announced it would be closing schools in Williamsburg that allow unvaccinated students to attend. Nine of the 10 schools closed thus far are in Williamsburg. The 10th is in the borough of Queens.

Orthodox authorities have urged their communities to vaccinate, and advocates of the communities cite data showing that Orthodox vaccination rates in Brooklyn are high. But pockets of resistance to vaccination remain in the community. According to data from the State Department of Education, more than 20 Orthodox schools in Brooklyn had immunization rates lower than 90 percent last year. Experts recommend an immunization rate of at least 95 percent.

Rockland County in New York, home to the heavily Orthodox city of Monsey, also has had a significant number of measles cases. Only about 77 percent of the county is vaccinated, according to state data.

In the case of the Satmar school, the city official said, school officials failed to meet deadlines to provide the city with students’ immunization records. When those records were received, investigations showed that the school was still admitting students and faculty who were not vaccinated.

The school is not being given advance notice that it is being closed so that school administrators will not falsify documents ahead of time.

In order to reopen, the official said, the school must compose a corrective action plan that ensures that it will no longer admit unvaccinated students. Faculty will need to know how to act if an unvaccinated student attends. Before the school reopens, the city will have to approve the school’s plan.

City officials will check back daily to make sure the school remains closed in the interim.

Satmar might be right vis-a-vis Zionism, but they are wrong here. Shut em down!! Vaccinate your kids or stay home.

“The school is not being given advance notice that it is being closed so that school administrators will not falsify documents ahead of time.”

A shandah that the government has to plan for “falsified documents” – all the while the school administrators are allowing unvaccinated children to potentially cause illness or worse to others.

And this only furthers the Chillul H’shem that the news stories reveal.

it’s important for the readers to understand the situation. I am on the board of one of the schools that were closed. The schools are trying very hard to comply with the vaccination requirements. on the other hand, the phobic, conspiracists parents are fighting the schools with a fanatic ignorance. the school sends home the kids, they send them back with car services. And the game goes on and on, sometimes up to 3 or 4 times a day.

these anti-vaccinators are determined to fight the schools (can’t fight the gov, so take it out on the school) until the school will break to pressure. We need to know what we are dealing with.

According to Jewish law, it is against Halacha to endanger one’s health, as well as the health of others. Yet, these misinformed fools can’t seem to understand that contracting measles, is a serious, and sometimes deadly manner. They seem to think, that it is tantamount to catching the common cold! Ignoramuses!

Hepatitis B is primarily an STD. Will someone please explain why it is mandated for all children? And to top that is it most often administered on day 1 of a childs life.
There is not a single drug in the world without side effects. This is no different.
This disease is a very small threat to us yet we are mandated to give the vaccine.
If you want to know why people don’t trust the system. This is one of them.
Please don’t label someone crazy antivaxxer just because they question and don’t follow blindly.

A person is better off contracting the measles than if he had shots, because then he is immune for life. Getting shots goes not give life long immunity. Most people who get the measles in their childhood suffer no ill after affects. I am not pro or con vaccinations, but people should be allowed to take care of their health the way they want and not be forced into getting shots which may cause more harm than the illness itself. Newborns have natural immunity from their nursing mothers for at least 6 months and should not get any vaccinations until 6 mos. of age. Some shots should not be given at all, like hepatitis B which can only be contracted through contaminated blood.

#14 I am in no way pro STD. I am suggesting that for my family I feel that the risks are quite low and feel we would be safer without the vaccine.
#15 ,16 It is foolish to believe that vaccination comes with 0 risk. Not vaccinating my family puts very little risk on others. To make a general statement whether to vaccinate or not gives the industry and government way to much power to decide what goes into your body.
Its important to have the debate on an individual vaccine before stating that you must “vaccinate.”
I intentionally chose a single vaccine to demonstrate my point. I’m not certain of the exact figure but children are currently being administered somewhere around 72 vaccines at a relatively young age with more being introduced every day. When I was a child in the 80’s it was somewhere around 8-11. Telling someone “you must vaccinate” is writing a blank check to the industry and government to force what they want on you.
And if you believe that the government always has “your” interest in mind then good for you. But the majority of people I speak with on a daily basis know that to not be true no matter what the subject matter.

I would like to wake you all up ppl…. First let me introduce. I was NOT anti vax, but am slowly getting educated on vaccinations and doing some research. The only reason I began doing so was .. seeing and not believing the way pro vacciners were treating and conflicting with anti vaxxers!! Hundred percent if you feel vaccines are safe enough to inject in your kids, do so gladly, but why are you taking in to heart when others don’t???!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course such kids shouldn’t attend places where it can harm others but except this, there’s no reason why in the world they shouldn’t have the right to do what they feel it’s safe for their children. Did you chap what is going on lately in the yiddisha gossen?? hashem ya’rocheim these tzuris…we heard the last few weeks so so many sudden deaths of young young people!!! WAKE UP YIDDISHA OILEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ISN’T IS OBVIOUS WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING EMERGENCY ???? SOME TIKKIN????? STOP STOP THESE SINNAS CHINIM AND LET EVERYBODY DO WHATEVER THEY DECIDE AS RIGHT (exc. harming others)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
