New York, NY – Madoff Tries to Squirm His Way Out of the Slammer

    26

New York, NY – Even after pleading guilty to masterminding a $65 billion Ponzi scheme that decimated the lives of thousands across the country, Bernard Madoff is trying to get a break.

While Madoff’s victims are likely shrieking “can’t let it happen,” it’s possible that the hedge fund manager’s 150-year maximum prison sentence could get cut, thanks to one of the best prison consultants in the industry.

Madoff hired “mitigation specialist” Herbert Hoelter to try to shave off some prison time. Hoelter’s got quite a track record of helping out high-profile jailbirds, including Michael Vick and Martha Stewart.

A court gave Hoelter the OK to visit Madoff in the Metropolitan Correctional Center. The fraudster is scheduled to be sentenced on June 29.

Hoelter is recognized as one of the leading experts in sentencing and the federal prison system, especially when it comes to finding ways to avoid jail time, according to the Web site of his firm, the National Center on Institutions and Alternatives. The Baltimore-based firm works “to break the destructive cycle often associated with the human service and correctional systems,” according to its Web site.

“We provide individual care, concern, and treatment for emotionally disturbed youth, developmentally disabled adults and adolescents, and those involved in the criminal justice system,” the site reads.

The young children portrayed on the site’s homepage hardly draw an image to the likes of clientele that Hoelter, one of the firm’s founders, is engaging in Madoff. And the section on the site – “Ways to Give” – bears a bitter taste of irony considering who it could be helping.

Bernie isn’t the only Madoff who’s reached out to prison consultants for help navigating the slammer. His niece, Shana, was so afraid of the big house that she contacted Wall Street Prison Consultants for advice on how to “play the game.”

he’s a yid! every time I hear that he’s still in jail by heart bleeds just like it’s still bleeding from hearing that a brother (another yid) was accused of doing what he’s accused of doing!

Imagine this was your normal brother, yes he did have a yetzer hora and did something wrong. or imagine your own son did something this wrong would you be happy that he’s sitting in jail? would you be happy that he’s being put through all this? yes he might’ve done something totally wrong with no teretz. but you would be saying tehillim that he be stopped some other way and your heart would be bleeding for him at every missed opportunity to stop him!

Common where is your pintele yid!

He is technically yid, who made a huge chilul haShem, who didn’t keep anything to be worthy to be called a yid!!!!!!
And you have rachmonus with him? Have rachmonus with HaShem whose kovod is besmirched in His world. Have rachmonus with our koshere mosdos who have been robbed. Have rachmonus with the r”l future victims because of the vast antisemitism mr misery madoff has sparked world wide. Have rachmonus with yourselves for thinking like Shaul HaMelelch who also had the wrong kind of rachmonus.

Its better for him to stay in jail. I’m sure if he comes out from there someone will kill him.
He is a yid and I don’t want him there but maybe its better for him to stay in jail better then to get killed. No?

i care for a yid like my brother

Can he write a book in prison on “Halachos of [stealing] other people’s money”? Perhaps he can get a famous co-author already published on a similar subject?

First of all, he’s still a jew. Second, it was just money. Its pretty sad that other jews would give up on the fact of the first, for the second.

The kosher, honest Jewish people have been besmirched by the evil deeds of Madoff, the mechalel shem shomayim and poshaya.

To express sympathy for him, is to admit association with him and further damage the standing of his Jewish brothers that he has caused inestimable harm to.

We should press for the longest possible jail term for him. He is a rodaif of clal Yisroel and deserves no mercy.

He’s crazy for wanting to come out of jail, he has more protection there then on the streets. Everyone will want a piece of him, once he’s loose, including MOI!

Yes, my heart bleeds for the victimes, each one of them, who in their eagerness to make a lot of money were begging Bernie to invest for them, unfortunately the victims worshiped the mighty dollar and my heart bleeds for them. But is this a reason for a Yid to sit forever in jail, because of greed of others, down to earth lowly greed called money? Should Bernie sit there while those that lost every penny, yes the ones that threw it to him and begged him to invest their money, should they not be in prison too? My heart bleeds for all of them as they have all, these elite Jews have all falled and have become a low money grabbing bunch…
