Kiryas Joel, NY – KJFD responding to a structure fire at a three story house at 4 Eahal Court corner Buchanen Drive. Monroe, Harriman, Woodbury and South Blooming Grove fire departments are all responding to the heavy fire on the roof of this occupied multiple dwelling.

Fire now a 3rd Alarm additional departments from Chester and Hillside responding.

Command on the scene reporting that the fire is under control but heavily damaged the entire structure. NY State Police and fire police requested to assist with vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
B”h everyone was evaquated safely. It started when construction workers accidently struck a electrical system. But as of 6.12 pm its still burning.
3 families are without a roof on their heads. One family has a “kalah” several months be4 wedding day. May hashem bring them comfort

Ok. I was in KJ yesterday when this was going on… I was greatly moved by how people were clamoring to help the victims and provide them with food , board and comfort. Nobody was analyzing living conditions, legality of such, etc. Some of you plain and simple just love to hate.
I was on the scene;
No illegal appartments in this building, its a 2 story building and each floor has a rental (well one wasn’t a rental it was a grandparent to one family),
The people living there had a good insurance,
But since this was ignited by a torch for a A/C unit in the attic (as you can see from the pics there were construction going on there) it ignited in the attic the roof was burning with 3 minutes:
And as timeline:
5:37 a call came in to the KJFD of smoke a memeber’s was dispatched,
At 5:38:51 a pupmer truck was on its way 5:39 confirmed attic and ladder truck dispatched with a request for a third pupmer with full swatt of memeber,
5:40 command and hoses are being stretched Mutual Aid has been request (other FD departments for structure fire)
5:41 3rd truck enroute,
5:49 ladder has been stretched and front side of building is undercontrol,
5:51 back of building fire is starting to spread
5:54 a full team are fighting the backwall, mombasha FD has up their ladder and are helping the lone kjfd ladder from spreading the fire; and than all the small fires from foam insulation are getting fighted from the inside;
6:05 chaveirim disastor recovery team has dispatched american red cross for possible help,
and from here on the minutes didn’t make a difference so I didn’t noted them 🙂
