Jerusalem - Israeli leaders across the spectrum expressed rage and sorrow over the murder of IDF soldier Dvir Sorek, 19, in Gush Etzion on Wednesday night.

Dvir was found stabbed to death just feet away from his yeshiva, Yeshivat Machanayim, between Migdal Oz and Efrat.

Prime Minister and Defense Benjamin Netanyahu, this morning on Thursday stated that “this morning we were informed about a harsh stabbing attack. The security forces are currently in pursuit to apprehend the abhorrent terrorist and bring him to justice.”

“On behalf of myself and the government, I send condolences to the family,” he added.

Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz stated that “the heinous act will enforce our resilience to strengthen the Jewish presence throughout the Land of Israel.”

Former minister of Justice Ayelet Shaked, currently the head of the United Right party, called to “exact a high price in the face of severe terrorism.”

“The State of Israel must exact a high price and strengthen its deterrence in the face of Palestinian terror.”

Ohr Torah Stone, of which Yeshivat Machanayim is a part of, stated that “with immense pain, we mourn the murder of our dear and beloved student Dvir.”

“Dvir was one of the pillars of the Beit Midrash, with awe, tolerance and wisdom, combined with a kind and compassionate heart for every living thing,” the Yeshiva stated.

Gush Etzion Regional Council head Shlomo Ne’eman said Thursday morning that “Gush Etzion was awakened to a difficult morning in which pure blood was shed by rogue assassins.”

“We will not weaken as a nation… in these days of the month of Av, mourning for the destruction of the Temple and the long exile, we declare that our stay in the Land of the Fathers is not a passing episode but an existing fact for generations to come.”

“Our bitter enemies will repeatedly try to hurt us, but our answer is the response of the Gush Etzion fighters in the War of Independence, ever more determined – the eternity of Jerusalem,” he added.

He called in the Israeli government to “end this war with a triumph. The sovereignty of Israel in Gush Etzion and in Judea and Samaria, in general, is the only national answer that is sought.”

Rabbi Shlomo Wilk, head of Sorek’s yeshiva, told Israel Radio that the student had gone to Jerusalem to buy presents for the school’s faculty. Wilk said Sorek had called a friend and said he would return on time.

“When he was late, we started to worry,” Wilk said. “Fairly quickly we understood that something wasn’t right and we got the police involved.”

Sorek’s father, Yoav, is the editor of a Hebrew language Jewish history magazine and the Shiloach Journal of for Policy and Thought.

Dvir was the grandson of a prominent religious nationalist rabbi, Benjamin Herling, one of the forerunners of the settlement movement, who was killed by a Palestinian gunman near the West Bank city of Nablus in 2000.

Netanyahu said in a statement that security forces were “in pursuit now in order to capture the despicable terrorist and bring him to account.”

Yesterday, this website covered the story of a Muslim who was granted Israeli citizenship because he sheltered Jews from a lynch mob. Do not wish ill on all Muslims - please restrict your vengeance to sonei Yisroel. Your visceral hate for anyone just not like you might even extend to Jews - which is why we still have the Three Weeks to observe....

Increasing punishments on these filthy terrrists won’t help a whit. They glorify death and believe they’ll get paradise for killing a Jew. Throw them out of our land!!!!!

That was a real anomaly unfortunately, and I imagine he had Jewish blood in him.
