LMSW Martin (Mordechai, Mutty) Weinberger performing Jewish hypnosis at a Biderech concertBrooklyn, NY - Hypnosis – that word evokes mystery and a fear of the unknown.  That might all changed with LMSW Mordechai (Mutty) Weinberger, the first frum hypnotist, prominent therapist and musmach of Rab Pam o”h,  who has revealed that one can learn the Nifloas HaBoireh in understanding the brain’s functions.  Even more, if we learn how to understand the inner workings of the brain, we can be empowered to change our lives by taking control and building better and stronger relationships.

Last June, at a concert sponsored by B’Derech, the movement founded by attorney Ruchie Freier, to keep teenagers happy B’Derech HaTorah, Weinberger, performed a live-stage hypnosis act.  The crowd was in awe and impressed by his ability to make people do things they would never do in public.  His message to the crowd was “You can all be empowered to change your lives for the better.  While the past is always a part of you and lies deep within your brain; with the right tools, you can learn to manipulate your brain to make you a happier person.”

This Sunday, iy”h, September 13th at 8:30 pm in the Belzer Hall, 5015 15th Avenue, Weinberger will speak at a B’Derech event for men only.  His theme will be for parents to learn how they can improve their relationships with their children.  He will also interview Rabbi Moish Mendlowitz, grandson of Reb Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz, zt”l, who returned to Yiddishkeit after leaving yeshiva and Torah and unlock the story of his past.  Why he was turned off and what turned him back on to Torah?  Also, Dr. Weinberger will interview Baruch Miller, a 22 year old ger tzedek who just moved to Boro Park originally from New Orleans, who just finished learning in Eretz Yisroel.  He will demonstrate what makes a person’s brain come to the decision of making a life-changing decision.

Are we to believe this? I am not convinced that hypnosis is real. If it were real, Rav Twersky would have written about it as a method for positive change. In fact Chazal and Rabbanon would also have recognized it.

It looks like these guys were smoking something potent before the show. Their behavior had nothing to do with hypnosis.

Of course this presentation is a sham. I've seen it done in many settings. this performance happens to be pretty weak compared to others I've seen.

On the other hand, Bderech and Mrs. Freier are serious about their mission. If they have to utilize a little theatrics to get these guys on the right path then so be it. I don't think she expected it to be exposed on youtube to the masses.

The video you see is edited down. If they would have shown the whole thing I could have pointed out where the trickery is. In really good set ups, each participant thinks he is the only one faking it and that the others are really 'under'.

Who cares, what does that have to do with anything. Try to focus, unless you too were under hypnosis.

Sep 13, 2009 at 02:17 PM Dr. Zacharowicz Says:

Hypnosis has been known and studied for over a century. Indeed, Sigmund Freud left the field of neurology to become a psychiatrist after learning of such techniques.

Whether it is truly an altered state of consciousness or simply a demonstration of the power of suggestion has been debated for nearly as long.

[This controversy is well covered in most introductory psychology courses.]

There are many methods that can be used to help people, including hypnosis, meditation, relaxation techniques, and 'the power of suggestion' (similar to the placebo effect for some).

As a matter of fact Dr. Twerski does talk about hypnosis in one of his books. He speaks about how he trained to do hypnosis and its powers...

Hi everyone I see you are all looking very bad on how it went. I was the guy that Dr. Weinberger hypnotized and I never knew dr weinberger before that night and I still dont know him but when I do talk to him he is the most amazing guy out there.
and just for you info he said before the show that it will be on you tube and you can look at the positive that he kept 150 boys off the street that night. He was so nice that even though I consented for it to be on you tube he still let me see the preview and choose not to let it air if i didnt like it.
Before that night I didnt believe it was real and now I BELIEVE. I think all of you should start looking positive at him and this stuff.

well i have to say im a Chasidic social counselor and advance Hypnotherapist,
i help people daily with counseling and hypnosis,

i did take a curse on stage hypnosis, knowing that as a frum analytical Yiddish clientele that some have been or heard of stage hypnosis, i would be asked what is the difference betwin hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis,

so let me tell you some of the secrets

first stage hypnosis is real hypnosis, the subject has to be willing to go on stage and want to have a good time,
the subject is not fighting the hypnotist and is accepting suggestions, at any time if he wants or if he gets any kind of fear get out of it,
there is also used convincers like sound effects,

but it is a real working thing, I do it daily and my clients are very successful,
I W CHT

I am a client by mr. weinberger and he is an amazing and caring therapist. He is gentle and very ethical. He has a phd in hypnosis (not psychology) and he is a licensed social worker. he has lots of rabonim that send him clients.. he is a ben torah and learns everyday...
He volunteers his time to organizations and works on many people for free.. before you write about someone think...
you wrote about a very special person that saved my family and I take it personally

To all the critics. After just a few sessions with this wonderful therapist, you would learn that you can find the possitive side to almost anything. There is no need to jump on and critisize things, even as you may thing that a certain thing looks strange to you. There is no need to go neggative when there is room for possitive.

You owe him an apology. Hypnosis is real however its not "mind control". Its allowing your subconscious to accept the suggestions of the suggester ie. the hypnotist. I have gone for hypnotherapy (not with him, seek someone with lots of experience....) and I can vouch for it that it does indeed help and at no time are you under his control. You are always in full control and its all about allowing yourself to accept the therapists suggestions into your subconscious mind to affect positive changes in yourself. Anyone thinking about hypnotherapy should certainly give it a shot. I saw remarkable results in only 2 sessions!!!!

If you are always in full control, then why is it that hypnotists have to snap their patients out of it? Why did the person on stage say he was embaressed by what he had done? If he was fully in control, he should have refused. Furthermore, people are laughing at those on stage. This is supposedly "entertainment," when it should only be used in private between the professional and the patient. Sorry, I don't owe him any apology. He owes those whom he embaressed on stage an apology. Even if someone gives you permission to embaress them, you are not allowed to do so.

they are in control to not do things the really don’t want to, like give private information, once in deep hypnosis, there is like a 2 sec, delay, and you don’t mind to have a little more fun that u would not do if you would just have an audience but not being hypnotized,
if you watch he is only doing things that they would do if they would be hyper or a bit drunk,
I work with people daily and some times if the get nervous like they remember that the forgot the stove on, they will just pop out in the deepest session

It depends on what's going on in these kids heads. Most of these kids are so far out in their "Lifestyle" that we need to take EXTREME measures to get them back! They can't think straight. They need "THOUGHT SURGERY" to get them back on the right path! May you never have the experiences that warrants the need to take such steps.
