Economic Forum Focuses on Charedi Employment IssuesBnei Brak, Israel – Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman said yesterday (Tuesday) at an economics forum sponsored by Bank Poalei Agudas Yisroel that he would form a nurses training track for the charedi sector. During the event, which addressed the issue of employment in the charedi sector, Rabbi Litzman said the training program would be set up in cooperation with Laniado Hospital in Netanya.

Litzman lodged complaints against government ministries for not employing charedim. “At a commercial bank where an NIS 300 million fraud was perpetrated there was only one accountant who went over the books. On the other hand, charedi institutions have a number of accountants to review income taxes, the NGO Registrar, etc., and I say, ‘Why don’t you switch the situation around?’”

During the discussion panel, which was led by Nati Toker of The Marker, Bnei Brak Mayor Yaakov Asher said, “We’re going to build an office center in the north of Bnei Brak in order to attract offices. We don’t want to continue relying on our representatives in the Knesset to have budget funds transferred.” Asher said only after the City of Bnei Brak is capable of operating independently would he be able to nurture employment.

Accountant Yoel Toledano, a partner at the Ziv Haft firm, whose Bnei Brak branch employs 25 charedi women, blamed the charedi sector itself for not giving work to charedi companies.

“I spoke with a charedi man who is the control owner of a public corporation, and proposed passing on work to the charedi branch. He told me he didn’t want to work with the charedi branch because they would be liable to leak information. The charedi business community is to blame most of all.”

Talk about “leaking information”, anyone who thinks that Badatz coke is any different, or, “more kosher” than American coke is seriously deluded. The syrup is shipped in sealed containers to Israel where it is bottled exactly as it is bottled in the U.S. The Coca-Cola company would never reveal the secret formula to Israelis, charedi or otherwise, because of the issue of “information leaks”. But, keep shipping it back in your suitcases and make sure all your neighbors know that you bring in your own coke so they will think you are very “frum”.

Mr. Toledano perhaps does not understand that as an employee of a public company, the charedi man he was speaking to owed fiduciary duties to his emploers and shareholders. Had he hired a firm that was not the best one for his company, the charedi man could have (and should have) been fired. You can not just choose a company to do business with just because the people in it dress like you.

Nursing is a great profession, but I wonder if by a “nurses training track” he is referring to the equivalent of an RN in the U.S. If so, here that requires four-years of full-time very heavy duty college training with lots of science courses. Even an LPN is requires two years of college with lots of science and math. A certified nursing assistant only requires less than a year of training.

Getting into drugs is something that many people succumb to. The reason for drug addiction is actually deeper than just the thought of enjoying the effects of drugs. Hence it is necessary to come out of drug addiction as soon as possible as it can, in the long run, deplete a person’s life energies.
